Akhnaton is available at Amazon.co.uk in facsimile edtion. Excellent fun, I just finished reading it tonight and loved it. Too bad this site hasn't updated this new edition yet in the reading list and shop areas. Amazon.co.uk has many facsimile editions of Agatha Christie's works and more are coming out next month, such as Crooked House and Death Comes as The End; I've been collecting them and suggest them to anyone interested. They have original cover artwork and inside adverts for other mysteries. Original type setting; etc. Enjoy!
I borrowed a copy of this play from my local library and finished it today. Eventhough it was written in 1937 I still think it is contemporary.
Yes, there are a few copies out there, mostly rare first editions and a handful of those nice black leatherbound and gold leaf-stamped edtions that were produced as part of an Agatha Christie Collection in the 1990's.
It's an interesting play, but it is NOT an adaptation of Death Comes as the End, as many people think. It's a historical drama looking at themes of power, religious faith, duty, betrayal, art, and obedience. It's one of Christie's best plays, and I'm surprised that it hasn't had more professional productions.
Yesterday I was at Curious Book Shop In beautiful East Lansing, Michigan looking at tittles and talking to Mr. Walsh the owner. Behind him was a first edition copy of Akhnaton.
I paged through it and read some of the story. So if anybody is looking for a copy there is one out there.

Is the new young king of Egypt, Akhnaton, a visionary or just a day-dreamer? Building a new city is one thing but advocating non-violence is quite another, particularly when the enemy is encroaching. Will the people who are closest and most loyal to him be able to persuade him that he must change his ways or will they have to take matters into their own hands? With its themes of art, religious fervour, suffering and loyalty this is surely one of Christie's most powerful plays.
