Alot of the Christie events from previous years have looked like great fun! The mystery hunts, plays and the costume ball. But there are some fans who are housebound/disabled, so one idea is an online event of some sort. Can anyone think of something?

Maybe clues hidden around the site for people to solve?

Let famous artists come up with art for covers of the Christie books! A competition would be nice, but it would also be great fun to ask artists, illustrators world wide to come up with a design for one speicific book (a whole serie covers for The Body in the Library ) or for individuael books to create a complete new serie with different covers!

I recently had a birthday on the 10th and treated myself by taking part in the week long celebration of Agatha's 120th in Torquay. The week opened with a garden fete followed by visits to the theatre to see Witness for the Prosecution and Spider's Web.  Guided walking tours about Agatha's life in Torquay. A vintage bus ride to visit Greenway House. A night out when 14 of us, in 1920s costume, took the Murder Mystery Dining steam train to Kingswear. A Tea Dance and Garden Party, culminating in the Agatha Christie swim from Goodrington to Broadsands, and in between, whilst completing the treasure hunt for 120 Red Herrings across Torbay, I visited places of interest and relevance to Agatha whilst she was growning up in her home town, and visited places such as Churston Rail station and Churston Manor, a cream tea at Cockington Court, etc.  Even if I don't win one of the prizes I enjoyed my birthday treat and hope that it is repeated next year.

Another idea would be to choose any Christie title then make as many words as you can of 3 or more letters

Forgetful-avatar
Forgetful 16 Sep 10 at 11:53 a.m. GMT

How about a week of doing different things, such as submitting things like short stories/poems/crosswords etc all related to Christie books/plays. Each catagory could win a random prize from the shop signed by Mrs Christie's grandson

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 24 Jun 10 at 9:29 p.m. GMT

Yes, because it's ACs birthday. Greenway is still open most of the year though.

I wish Christie week was during the summer months (June-August).  If it were, my husband and I would surely fly to England from California for the festivities.  Do they always hold it in September?

Mr_west-avatar
Mr_west 15 Jun 10 at 7:08 p.m. GMT

ok, you can open it plese?

and here is another question:

where did the book appointment with death take place?

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 15 Jun 10 at 3:37 p.m. GMT

Bantry. I didn't look that one up! I know it by heart.

Maybe we should start another psot for the quiz?

Mr_west-avatar
Mr_west 15 Jun 10 at 3:02 p.m. GMT

we can still ask here questions and who search for the answer only hurt his fun, for exmple: what is the last name of miss marple friend dolly?

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 14 Jun 10 at 4:47 p.m. GMT

Well the quiz would be great if it was a interative website game feature. Rather than one that we post on the topics, because frankly, some people would look up the answers! You could have easy, moderate and hard levels.

Mr_west-avatar
Mr_west 14 Jun 10 at 3:55 p.m. GMT

OMG i know almost everything about AC and her work!

also we can ask here question (without spoilers like who is the murderer in ......!)

hey g'day!

how about someone come up with a problem to solve (they know the solution, which is feasible) as in "the Tuesday Night Club", give some pertinent facts whereby readers can attempt, by their st mary mead ways, work it out?

of course Poirot, Mr. Quin, Parker Pyne, Tommy and Tuppence et al can have tier turns.

cheeeers!

In answer, theres been a couple of short stories posted on here for people to work out.

It also would be great if there was a big Agatha Chrisite quiz. One that has to be anwered in a time limit, so people can't cheat by looking up the facts!

Hello and welcome to the board MrJuan.

I do think that the end of Then There Were None is so fantastic, that it can't possibly be bettered by anyone. But not to put you off, short story competions would be a great idea for this website. So maybe in the future yo can submit some of your ideas.

MrJuan-avatar
MrJuan 06 May 10 at 7:36 p.m. GMT

What about a competition . Write a new finale for ATTWN. This year is the 70 anniversary of my prefered novel. And I think it's a good idea. If not I'll send to the blog my own finale . But I have to translate it because as you can see my english is very very bad. I'm from Spain ( Bilbao , in the north) and I'm very happy  of can read all of you speaking about my favorite writer. Thanks .

yours sincerely.

MrJuan

And sorry for my english...

Lots of great suggestions here folks, I am all for the following;

-Website murder mystery where we can all participate.

-Website short story submission - kept to a certain amount of words

-Vote for Agatha's best books, short stories, or characters were all webiste members are asked to submit lists.

The murder mystery has began! Who else is playing?

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 06 Apr 10 at 3:06 p.m. GMT

Yes, I suppose if the site would allow a dead person to post. I'm not exactly Nemesis though. If I was a goddness, it would probably be The Goddess of Confusion! It's how I am alot of the time.

My dying message would be "who shall have my beloved sony mp3 walkman" after Ive gone!

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 06 Apr 10 at 2:13 p.m. GMT

If I was killed on my birthday... I think I'd know who the killer was! I wonder, can I leave a dying message? This time NOT in the form of a GARNET CROW song, so you can solve it easier?

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 06 Apr 10 at 2:10 p.m. GMT

It would be a shame to be murdered on your 16th birthday! But I think it's more likely to happen over a weekend.

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 06 Apr 10 at 2:06 p.m. GMT

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 31 Mar 10 at 3:28 p.m. GMT

Oh, I'm excited now!! Nervously awaiting the game, like a mad thing... Heheheheh. I hope the killer is from a book I have read, and not an obscure book.

TheButlerDidIT-avatar
TheButlerDidIT 30 Mar 10 at 4:52 p.m. GMT

I think that making the murderer from a Christie because some people might not  have read that paticular book, giving those who have an unfair advantage. Making it a Christie type character woud be better!

Moderator2-avatar
Moderator2 30 Mar 10 at 2:39 p.m. GMT

Latest from the Chipping Cleghorn Gazette:  “A shadowy figure has been spotted loitering near the agathachristie.com homepage. Witnesses describe the shadowy figure as having no discernible features and a giant question mark for a face. No further sightings have been reported though locals expect the reappearance of the mystery figure any week now. Police are baffled as to the identity of the mystery figure and fear for the safety of the community...”

I think the murder mystery might happen at Easter, over the weekend and bank holiday. It's a feeling I have, though Ive had those feelings before and been wrong!

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 27 Mar 10 at 5:34 p.m. GMT

It must be soon now! The suspense is so big! Ah, no! I've just reminded myself of Aiuchi Rina's song Koi wa Thrill, Shock, Suspense (Love is Thrill, Shock, Suspense) from Detective Conan! Now I can't get Conan's parapara dance out of my head!!

This should be good fun. I may not have read the book with the killer in it, which makes me nervous, but I'm still so excited.

The rumour mill's in overdrive - who's the killer? when will they strike? why are they slaying innocent members of the Agatha Christie community? News of the first murder will be posted on the homepage, soon!

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 10 Mar 10 at 3:54 p.m. GMT

I'm preparing already, going through all the books I've read and making notes on the killers from every book... Fun, but hard.

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 04 Mar 10 at 4:04 p.m. GMT

You are probably right, at 15 you can mature into a graceful adult. But it's too late for me!

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 04 Mar 10 at 4 p.m. GMT

It's okay, it smelled nice.

I think I can maybe get away with it, depending on the teacher... Some of them are evil, though. I'd just be terrible at a fancy party. But one day...

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 04 Mar 10 at 3:53 p.m. GMT

Do you think you can get away with blameing Agatha Christie, for not doing your school work?! If I was a teacher, I'd understand! I love AC, it's just as well I started reading her books after I had finnished school. It would have left me distracted.

Sorry I made your tea go up your nose! I never expected anyone to laugh! Just as well were not at the Agatha Christie cocktail party eh?

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 04 Mar 10 at 3:48 p.m. GMT

I liked that pun! It made me laugh, but at the same time I was drinking. So now I have ice lemon tea in my nose. I think I'll probably end up getting in trouble at school because of it, writing in my Belorussian notebook about the killer rather than doing work. And then... my mum would ban me from the computer! Horror of horrors!

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 04 Mar 10 at 3:40 p.m. GMT

I did want to be a cereal killer!! Sorry terrible pun! I love cheesey jokes. But I'm better at solving murders than commitng them. I reckon when the murder hunts begins, your'll have worked it out before anyone else.

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 04 Mar 10 at 3:36 p.m. GMT

I would just be guessing... but now you say it, you do seem suspicious. And worse- I love all those cereals! Especially Branflakes! Oh, I'm doomed. (Joking- slightly.) But I think that since that newsletter said "appearing", then that means they would be new. Also, if someone was to change their username for it, then that would be changed on all their posts, right? That way, they'd instantly become suspicious. Unless they made a new account... which brings me back to the beginning of my circle. Hmmm. Ok, I'm confusing myself.

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 03 Mar 10 at 5:53 p.m. GMT

BTW how would you know it's someone with a new profile? it could be someone older, who planned it a while ago.. it might even be ME!

It was MissQuin, in the kitchen, with arsenic.. I put itno peoples Bran Flakes, Rice Crispies or even Shredded Wheat..

MissQuin-avatar

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 03 Mar 10 at 3:18 p.m. GMT

When IS spring, anyway? With global warming and whatnot, the seasons really are a mess. Look at me, all impatient... I'm so excited! I'm sharpening my mind now. Plus, I'm going to try and read as many Christies as I can to increase my knowledge of the murderers.

MissQuin-avatar

There are some great ideas!! i'm quite exited. I especially like the idea of finding the killer and motive to the ending of a short story !! I also like the idea of having clues etc hidden around the site !! :)

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 17 Feb 10 at 10:29 a.m. GMT

Wow, seems you'll have a good advantage~♥

Another variation is that everyone writes one,  and we have a big event of trying to guess the solution. The player with most correct answers wins!

TheButlerDidIT-avatar
TheButlerDidIT 11 Feb 10 at 7:07 p.m. GMT

Great idea detective Conan! I love writing murder mysteries and have written two books and a volume of short stories.

MissQuin-avatar
MissQuin 10 Feb 10 at 5:40 p.m. GMT

Those are such clever ideas Detective conan. Youve caught onto to what I was thinking.

Although if the moderators feel it's too time consuming, the clues could be shortened to paragraphs rather than a whole short story.

HeiseiHolmes-avatar
HeiseiHolmes 10 Feb 10 at 4:07 p.m. GMT

That sounds so AWESOME!! What about a mystery short story competition? This could work in two ways:

1. Everyone writes a story and posts it. It's judged in marks out of 10 for characters, murder style, clues, solution, and detective. Then an average is made and the one with the highest mark wins a prize.

2. One story is posted, written by a moderator or someone. The ending is omitted and players must judge the killer and provide one proof that it is that person. From all the correct answers, one is drawn at randon and that person wins a prize. Other people's solutions will be hidden, and only one guess is allowed.
