The Pale Horse & Miss Marple?!

Okay everyone, I am excited yet quite ambivalent here! I just read on this site: http://jj-feild.com/ that The Pale Horse will be filmed w/ Miss Marple! Of course I am happy to hear that The Pale Horse will be filmed. However I am not really happy (nor surprised really) that Miss Marple will be in it. I also am really excited that my fav actor JJ Feild is lined up to play: Osbourne, yes I was really surprised to hear that as well!

Holly Valance will be playing a character named Kanga Cottam. That's the only other bit of casting I can manage to find before ITV releases the official press release.

Yes, but Mrs. Lancaster doesn't commit suicide in the McEwan By the Pricking.  She and her husband are arrested, so she probably got sent to an asylum or a nursing home (one where she had no access to poison), so since she's still alive she could still make the cameo if the detectives need to check out some mental institution or something.

I don't think they'll bring in Zoë Wanamaker for the sole reason that she was Letitia Blacklock in A Murder is Announced. They'll probably write Miss Marple in by replacing Mrs Oliver. I can definitely see Frances de la Tour making a reappearance - wouldn't that be fun? Oh, and if only they could bring in Rhoda and Despard in for the ride, but because of the rewrites in Cards in the Table, it won't be possible. And Lyndsey Marshal already played Amy Gibbs in Murder is Easy.

And there's definitely no chance of seeing Mrs Lancaster making her cameo. The events of By the Pricking of My Thumbs will have happened before the timeline of this adaptation.

If the fourth episode of Marple Series 5 is Pale Horse, they'll probably replace Mrs. Oliver with Miss Marple.  Actually, I'd almost like to see Zoë Wanamaker do a Poirot/Marple crossover. I wonder if Frances de la Tour will reprise her role as Mrs. Maud Dane Calthrop from The Moving Finger for her appearance in Pale Horse.  While they're at it, I wonder if June Whitfield will reprise her role as Mrs. Lancaster from By the Pricking of My Thumbs for her little cameo in Pale Horse?

Strange... they're extending the whole series for yet another batch of adaptations? Unless they turn to short stories, there's practically nothing left for Miss Marple to appear in!

Still, I'm a fan of The Pale Horse, and as long as it isn't as humiliating as Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, I'll probably enjoy it. The older version is quite entertaining, but nothing like the book, and it deleted Mrs. Oliver- there's no character remotely similar to her, either.

It's odd how it's bearable to have Miss M is what is basically the same story as Enddless night! But The Case of Caretaker must have happened somewhere near her village as her doctor's daughter was involved. There is more of a village feel to the Caretaker case, various village spinsters being taken in by what they think of as a charming young man.

I'm not that keen On the caretaker title. I didn't even remember the caretaker being in it! Mind you if they start rewriting Marple titles we'll be in trouble. Nemesis could have been Marple -The nun's outing. They do it with mirrors could have been They Bore with Mirrors, for me anyway!

True. And if they labeled it as The Case of the Care Taker it wouldn't be bothersome. But since it is Endless Night  (a stand alone book) I feel as though MM has no business being in it.

I don't actually like Endless night, but I think it's a very well written book. It should never have a detective and certainly not Miss Marple. It's too complex and sinister. I can't imagine Miss m getting into the killers way of thinking as it's so warped.

We already had our joke about Miss M appearing in Ancient Egypt to solve Death comes to us all. But I find the idea of the Pale horse as incomprehensible.

I agree w/ you, MissQuin. That's why I am a little vexed over it. The producers know that Marple has no right to be in TPH. And I fear too (though it's not one of my favorite AC books - it is, after all, by the author we all like so much) that the essence of the story will be lost. I'm also dissappointed that this story will not be filmed by itself. And I'm also fearful that Endless Night will be next on Marple's list. I can honestly say that if MM is EN it will be ruined!

Ive posted alot abot this book in recent day!. In fact the film is on TV here in Britain on Sunday. It's not supposed to be much good, but the pictures of it look more creepy.

My worry is the TV Marple may soften the storyline. Marple is really not usually scary on TV. Only one scene in Ordeal by innocence really shocked me.

Plus it would be perhaps obvious that witchcraft can't quite exist it the same reality as Miss Marple?

You know, it's also quite a coincidence considering that everyone has seemed to be chatting about The Pale Horse on the forum, lately!

I am surprised too that JJ will be playing Osbourne. Of course it would have been nice to see him play Mark but I am looking past that because I am so happy that he'll be in another Agatha adaptation!

Tommy I don't know when it will be on TV but perhaps we can ask the Moderators for more info or perhaps they will list it on the main page soon.

I cant believe it! I just finnished reading it this morning. I do think JJ is rather too young for the part of Mr Osborne though. I would like him as mark instead. I don't actually want The Pale Horse as a Marple! It's because Murder is Easy is one of the best/creepiset AC books that Ive read. One TV they took the whole witchcraft/Satanism story out of it! I thought it was a mess, very dull.

Do you know when it will be on Television Bundle as I haven't read it and want to do so before it is on Television, I know Ariadne Oliver is in it perhaps they will take her out and just swap her for Miss Marple, perhaps after reading it I weill buy the Original Video if it works after we go digitil. BLANK This Country's gone Mad, both because we are going Digitil and because MM is in Adapts she shouldn't be in.
