Robin Upward/Evelyn Hope(Mrs McGinty's Dead)
Simon Doyle and Tim Allerton(Death on the nile)
since I'm not aloud to mention my beloved Hastings
...
definently Jackie from Death on the Nile and Nick Buckley from Peril at End House
my favourite characters-
1- Bella Duveen(Murder on the links)
2-Jacqueline deBellefort(Death on the nile)
My favourite character is "Miss Higley" in "The ABC Murders". Why? Because I find her sexy. She's buxom, voluptuous and flirtatious, a girl who you could really have some fun with.
Definatly Judith from Curtian!!!!! <3 <3 <3
Apart from Poirot, Hastings, Battle, Japp and Mrs Summerhayes
Oh well... It's not easy.
Angela from Five Little Pigs and Jackie from Death on the Nile. I easily relate to them.
Elinor Carlisle in "Sad Cypress" and Angela Warren in "Five Little Pigs".
Henrietta Savernake in The Hollow. Henrietta is in love with John, but still loves her friend and relative Gerda. Does everything she can to protect the killer out of loyalty to the victim. How interesting is that!!!?
Bob the dog in the Dumb Wittness. He's such a clever little dog and it breaks my heart when Poirot leaves him at the end and they both look into each others eyes
Doctor James Shephard, Lucy and Midge Angkatell. Alaxander Bonaparte Cust, Mrs Lorrimer... well, there're much more but at the moment I can't think of them all... Even if I'm not allowed to name him: Hercule Poirot is the best Charakter ever!
1-Caroline Sheppard (The Murder of Roger Ackroyd)
2-Henrietta Savernake (The Hollow)-(I've just finished it)
3-Mr. Clancy (Death in the Clouds)
4-Doctor James Sheppard (The Murder of Roger Ackroyd)
My favourites are mrs Lorrimer and Caroline Sheppard.
I am among the few who find many of the female Christie characters extremely annoying and unlikeable. Like the beforementioned Henrietta. And Dulcie Duveen, Megan (from Moving finger) Lucy Eyelsbarrow, Jaqueline Belfort, Frances Derwent, and the worst of them all: Mary in Sad cypress.
I dont like feisty, smug women. Or men.
1 Linnet Ridgeway (Death on the Nile)
2 Alexander Bonaparte Cust (The ABC Murders)
3 Dr Shepard (The Murder of R Ack)
4 Cynthia Murdoch (The Mysterious Affair)
5 Nick Buckley (Peril at End House)
6 Angela Warren (Five Little Pigs)
7 Dulcie Duveen (Murder on the Links)

Sympathy, yes...I can see that in some characters.
"I still wonder why".
Because you consider him/her to be interesting, or well written, maybe delivering a powerful message. Sometimes it's possible to still have some sympathy even for a murderer.
You're right Lone Wolf. It is possible to have a destestable character as a favourite.
I still wonder why.
Don't really understand what's so detestable in Henrietta, but "favourite character" doesn't always mean "the most morally wholesome character". It could be just a character who you think is well written. One of my favourite Christie characters is a murderer who committed a pretty heinous crime.
Cicely, I'm interested to know what it is in Henrietta that makes her your favourite. I find Henrietta quite detestable myself.
Henrietta Savernake! (The Hollow)
I am fond of Vera Rossakov, the Russian countess.
Ahh... Cornelia from Death on the Nile. She's such a nice person, and I love how she shouts at that stupid guy who wants to marry her.
Superintendent Harold Spence.....ONLY after he was portrayed by the dashing Richard Hope!
It has to be Victoria Jones from They Came to Baghdad. I wos brung up a workin class gurl, so I was surprised and delighted, after all those Dukes, Lords and Honorables, to find someone I could really relate to, a girl with no inherited wealth who had to work for her living!
(As I think I've mentioned elsewhere I tend to despise the likes of Elinor Carlisle and Theresa Arundell as decorative but useless parasites!)
In fairness, Christie only felt comfortable writing about the society with which she was most familiar, and, of course, it is fascinating to get an insight into country house parties, tiny villages, foreign travel, etc. The only dispute I would have about this totally believable portrayal of a girl from a different class is WHY OH WHY didn't Christie use her again? And again!!!!!

Definitely Ferguson from "Death on the Nile".
Salome Otterborne is hilarious. And I like Jackie, but that's probably because I adore Mia Farrow.
I really, really love Linda Marshall from "Evil Under the Sun". I've always felt terribly sympathetic towards her.
I always laugh to that woman in "Evil under the sun" I think it was, who is always talking, talking, talking and nitting. I was missing her a little in the series on television. It's so funny her husband always saying "yes" when she ask him something while he, i'm sure, does barely listen to her chatting.
While I can't say that I've read a great many of the Poirot stories (I don't seem to get the time to do anything these days but school work) my favourite characters would have to be Dr. Sheppard from 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd' and Akibombo from 'Hickory Dickory Dock'.
Of those stories I've seen portrayed on tv that I would like to read, I like Charlotte Davenheim from 'Disappearance of Mr. Davenheim'. She managed to keep a fairly cool head despite the happenings at the same time as displaying just the right amount of haughtiness. (I know you're all going to tell me now that this is just the way that she was portrayed on tv and she's completely different in the book.)
i like caroline shepphard from murder of roger ackroyd, but my favourite is angela from five little pigs

My favourite Poirot character is Donald Ross from Lord Edgware Dies, possibly because he is Scottish, like me.
I'd have to agree with the post regarding Mr Goby. One does seem rather amusing when one addresses coffee-tables, radiators, mantelpieces, and various assortments of furniture all the time.
Other than Mr Goby, the answers would probably be Richard Knighton (The Mystery of the Blue Train), Mr Satterthwaite (Three Act Tragedy), and possibly Appointment with Death's Amabel Pierce. I must admit, I have a soft spot for lovers - and also for Mr Satterthwaite - but Miss Pierce is simply hilarious. Oh, to dress like a limp leaf!
I liked the Reverend Stephen Lane in Evil Under the Sun. One of the most amusing (and potty) supects, I think, and his discussion with Poirot about the nature of Evil is, I think, one of the most fascinating conversations I've read in a Poirot novel. Possibly one of the most underrated characters ever, in my opinion.
I also like Derek Kettering, from The Mystery of the Blue Train, he was rather rough around the edges but he had a romantic side.
And I like David Hunter from Taken at the Flood.
- Caroline and James Sheppard (The Murder of Roger Ackroyd)
- Mrs Hubbard (Murder on the Orient Express)
- Jackie de Belleford (Death on the Nile)
- Salome Otterbourne (Death on the Nile)
- Lucy Angkatell (The Hollow)
Oh my, where do I begin? Having read over thirty novels (and not to mention over fifty short stories!) I don't know which my favorite characters are. Mr. Goby always cracks me up with his habit of talking to inanimate objects! I liked Mrs. Lacey from The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding. I found her to be so wise. Mr. Akibombo from Hickory Dickory Dock had a kind of innocence that I found endearing. Miss Bulstrode from Cat among the Pigeons was a strong and admirable character. There are more off course. But these are the only ones I can think of now.
I have so many apart from the regular ones Ariadne, Battle, Hasdtings, Japp and Of Course Poirot I like most of the women in 'Cat Among The Pigeons and The Novellist in 'Death In The Clouds.
I have several favorites, like most of you do, but I will just name 2 of them b/c it's a tie. The first is Elinor Carlisle from Sad Cypress. Her character had an indepth personality. She displayed every kind of emotion one can think of, there were times when she was happy, angry, sad, & confused...In short she wasn't one sided. My other favorite character would have to be the complete opposite from Elinor, it's Sally from Hickory Dickory Dock. She was so peppy, & funny, she really offered the comic relief the book needed.
I like Arlena S. Marshall (hint my user name)! She is such a drama queen and it was fun to hear all that she had to say. I also liked her because in one of the Evil Under The Sun movies Diana Rigg payed her and she rocks!!!!!
I like all the Teachers in 'Cat Among The Pigeons' except the French Teacher and the Novellist in 'Death In The Clouds'
Well, i like poirot and hastings the best, but i also love Sheila Webb from 'The Clocks'. And Colin too. But I'm not sure who murdered the old man because i havent finished the book yet. I think i'm going to finish it tonight or tomorrow.
Ferguson_37It is because Ferguson like Cornelia's attitude, kind, honest, simple etc.
squatty, forgive me if I sound haughty, but they weren't necessarily gay. The Geraldine McEwan version interpreted it that way, but I personally think they were two friends who lived together to split the bills (the war could've left them not too well off).
You can interpret it any way you like, though, because their relationship is only hinted at in the novel.
squattygay couple? what do you mean? do you mean gay as lively/happy?
Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Soldier Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear.
When the wealthy patriarch, Aristide, is murdered, suspicion falls on the whole household. ...
Travelling on the Orient Express, Poirot is approached by a desperate American. Afraid that someone plans to kill him, Ratchett asks Poirot for help ...

I know that you'll say Poirot or his friends Hastings, Oliver etc. Please Don't include them. Just tell me your favorite character only. For example, your favorite character is Rosamund Darnley(Evil Under the Sun).
Mine is: Mrs Allerton in "Death On the Nile"
How about you?
