I didn't read any Christie Christmas but I ordered Hercule Poirot's Christmas. I hope that will be a good one...of course the author is Christie!

Did you know that David Suchet learnt the technique to cut a mango from Prince Philipp, husband of Queen Elizabeth?

He was invited for dinner and struggled with the mango. Prince Philipp showed him. It is a nice insider gag when Poirot is referring, that he learned it from a duke. Prince Philipp is the Duke of Edinburgh.

Suchet suggested that little scene.

Another part of this movie (Royal Ruby) my family enjoys is when Poirot demonstrates the proper way to cut a mango!  After we saw this the first time, I bought some mangoes and we tried to cut them using Poirot's technique!  It was a very fun thing to do, since we all love Poirot.  Our young son especially enjoyed that connection.  Another thing I have done is to buy a box of Belgian chocolates that I came across unexpectedly in the Christmas candy aisle at the store!  We referred to them as our "demi-kilo of fine Belgian chocolates", just as Poirot refers to his!  Magnifique!

The part I love about Japp in HPC is when he and Poirot exchange Christmas gifts!

I also enjoy the household at church singing my favorite carol, O Come All Ye Faithful.  That show is beautifully done and I recommend you watch it this season!

oh, i love that part! Poirot has a wonderful singing voice, doesn't he? "Just the women!"

I have not read the Theft of the Royal Ruby, but I read HP's Christmas a couple of years ago.  I have seen the TV versions, and would like to comment on them.

HP's Christmas is dark.  The characters are very selfish and no one has any really nice qualities at all.  I love the house of the setting and the snow is very pretty.  I had to watch this a couple of times before I began to appreciate it.  It isn't very Christmassy to me.

Theft of the Royal Ruby is another story!  It happens to be one of my favorites Poirot shows.  It is very Christmassy with a fantastic Art Deco house with snow and a Christmas tree.  I love the family setting with teenagers and adults, both young and old.  The Christmas dinner is a nice scene with the Christmas pudding being the star.  I also enjoy the household at church singing my favorite carol, O Come All Ye Faithful.  That show is beautifully done and I recommend you watch it this season!

I will get the book and read it!  I always think the books are best because they are original Agatha Christie.  I just enjoy the visuals of TV and I have the whole set!

I love HPC, but I think my favorite is The Theft of the Royal Ruby, if only for the mistletoe line at the end .

Hercule Poirot's Christmas because it's dark but quintiessentially English and Christie.
