I have realised I can do it;
The Clocks
ABC Murders
Cards On The Table
I just can't put them in order, Evil Underr The Sun, Five Little Pigs, Death In The Clouds and Mrs McGinty's Dead would also be high Third Girl and Halloween Party would be middle along with Hickory Dickory Dock but all three higher than Three-Act Tragedy
I agree Totally, You always miss one when choosing the top ones but you are bound not to forget a book you really dislike and there are fewer or else we wouldn't like the books so much, Any except Big 4, AWD and Lord Edgware
I agree with Puffinjill that it's easier to pick our least favourites than the other way round...
So I would say: my favourite 3 Poirot whodunnits? anyone of them... except for... The Big Four, The ABC Murders and After the Funeral... although I like these too, only not so much as the others.
This is as near as I can get to whittling the Poirot books down into a top 3:-
1) Appointment with Death
2) Five Little Pigs
3) All the others EXCEPT Elephants Can Remember, Third girl and The Big Four.
Yes, yes, I know, I'm useless and indecisive but the truth is, although the top 2 remain favourites regardless, the other books appeal to me at different times and one day I will love, say, Cards On The Table or Death In The Clouds and the idea of a closed circle of suspects but another day I will want to read one with Hastings in, as his narrative is a joy. So this is as close as I can get to any type of 'best' list! The point is (with a few exceptions) I love them all and reading any of them makes my day better!
1) Murder on the Orient Express
2) Curtain
3) The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
you should add appointment with death

1. Murder on the Orient Express(this one is actually Poirot's best, i would give it the 2nd position if i am to give positions to all books written by Agatha Christie)
2. Big Four(this is one book that you would not want to leave even for a second)
3. Death on the Nile/ Cards on the Table
Actually its really difficult. I would have liked to add Sad Cypress, Murder of Roger Ackroyd & Five Little Pigs to it too. Its so difficult indeed.
1 The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
2 Dumb Witness
3 The Mysterous Affair at Styles
Don't bother with the dreadful tv adaptations of the first two though.
1. The Mysterious Affair at Styles
2. Curtain
3. Thrre-Act Tragedy
+ 1. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Mine are :
1. Cards on the table
2. Murder of roger ackroyd
I'm not sure about the third...
Hello! It will take me awhile to get used to this new site, but I love it already. I really like the new "Look"! I would have to say my top 3 HP mysteries would be: 1. The Hollow. 2. Peril at End House. 3. Death in the Clouds. BUT I love all of them, so it's really hard to choose!
Dumb Witness? How could I forget that one. An excellent choice, Paris. I love that one too!
I'm listening to the audio book of Sad Cypress at the moment, btw.
I agree with you Holly, Sad Cypress is fascinating. I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of reading it! I personally really enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express!!!!
I also agree with your selection (I've never read Evil Under the Sun but saw the movie so I know how surprising was the end) but I'd like to add "Lord Edgware Dies", it's really a good one.
That's a tough one. I tend to like my Poirots with Hastings thrown in
However, if I am forced to choose what I consider to be the best Poirots, then I agree with your selection. Although I would love to add Sad Cypress.
Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Soldier Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear.
When the wealthy patriarch, Aristide, is murdered, suspicion falls on the whole household. ...
Travelling on the Orient Express, Poirot is approached by a desperate American. Afraid that someone plans to kill him, Ratchett asks Poirot for help ...
