I didn't liuke TMORA but going to read it again to see if I like it up until the denoumont
Yes ABC is my favourite! We seem to have much in common! I've just read it the second time =) I also Like TMORA! it is great! in my opinoin one of the best!
I have read both COTT and ABC Murders at least 5 Times, both are Excellent books, I agree you can't argue about Taste, I love the Locked room Plot, I think between the Murder in MOTOE and The Denoumont can be boring, I am glad you like ABC though.
I agree Tommy!!! I do love the book, too but you can't argue about taste.... and I know there are some people who don't like it =( sad, isn't it? But in my opinion it has a very great plot! MOTOE is also great but I like the ABC murders and of course COTT more
Do you mean to say some people don't like Cards On The Table? I can imagine some lascivious people not liking it after seeing the Adaptation but if you haven't why wouldn't you love The Book? I can take or Leave MOTOE which is better than with some
Cards on the Table is one of my favourite but it's not for anyone. As foreword AC wrote, it was one of Poirots favourit cases but as he retold the story to Hastings he didn't like it really much.... you have to decide wether your taste is rather like Hastings' or like Poirots xD
I say just one word.Murder on the Orient Express is the best!
Five Little Pigs, this book is good!!!
My Uncle plays Bridge 3 times a week and My Dad can play Bridge and I would love to learn how to play Bridge (Although mainly because of Cards On The Table), I would do what I do sometimes look at the blurb about the books and the Plot you like least read next leaving the best till later and getting the worst one out of the way.
I think that the only thing one needs to know about bridge, to enjoy the story, is that it was amazingly popular for a while and people became addicted to the game. One murder was even commited (wife killed her husband) because of a disagreement over the game (she was acquited).
I do not play bridge, but I have known enough people who get completely swept up in their hobby to be able to relate to most of the discussion.
I personally have never played bridge. In fact, I do not know any card games at all. But that did not bother me while reading Cards on the Table. What I like about this book is the setting of the murder and the impossibility of that setting. How could someone commit such a crime and get away with it (even if for a short period of time)? Then there are the twists. Even if I could spot them from some time before (but that is because I've read too many AC books), they are still pretty good. All things considered Cards on the Table, even after about half a dozen re-reads, remains one of my favorites.
I see what you mean about all the bridge lingo; it was a bit overwhelming. However the rest of the book is great. Particularly the beginning: it really pulls you in!
I didn't like Cards on the Table much, it was a bit too unelegant for me. Maybe that's explained by my complete ignorance in bridge.
Cards on the Table is still trumps.
For go leafs nation
I have read ''Murder on the Orient Express''.
Or shall I start ''Murder at the Vicarage''.
Cards on the Table. One of my favorite Agatha Christie books of all time.
I like "After the Funeral" more. But it's slow in the middle.
I like them both, but steer clear of "Cards" until you've read "Murder on the Orient Express".
You should read Cards on The Table; in my opinion, it is superior to After the Funeral.
Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Soldier Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear.
When the wealthy patriarch, Aristide, is murdered, suspicion falls on the whole household. ...
Travelling on the Orient Express, Poirot is approached by a desperate American. Afraid that someone plans to kill him, Ratchett asks Poirot for help ...
