Who's a better detective

Who do you think is the better dective out of Hercule Poriot and Jane Marple and think that Hercule Poriot is much better and his stories are much more well thought out and diffecult. He is also a good character because he is so smart but weird.

You really can't compare them and to do so is unfair, Percentage wise there are more enjoyable Miss Marple stories but that is because there are more Poirot stories.

Well, I think Poirot is technically a better detective, but I prefer Miss Marple books to Poirot books because, well, at least, in the TV adaptations, Poirot seems domineering and quite forceful. I like Miss Marple and her quiet, polite, little-old-lady approach to crime much better! Yet Poirot really is an amazing detective.

I like them both but I like Poirot better. I think it's because I've read so many of his and only 2 of Marple's. But I tend to buy poirot book than marple's at the bookshop, so i guess poirot is more intersting than marple for me. But both are great characters!

I can understand why they do ariadnepoirotmarple as all but one of the Miss Marples are set in Britain where as Poirot stories are set in Different Countries and he has regular Side-kicks who bring something special to the books but I like the cozier atmosfere I get from the Miss Marple books because setting the Poirot's in far off Countries make them less accessable to me.

That's quite intersting, winnebago! People usually get bored of Miss Marple more easily. Personally, I agree with you=) I probably like MM better, her books are superb and some of them are better than Poirot's! But as characters, I like them both equally.

I like them both but as there are so many more Poirot books than Miss Marple books it is easy to get bored of him so on balance I think Miss Marple is better, Having said that I haven't read all the Poirot books or all the Miss Marple books, I am just going by the gact that if someone asked me which books I didn't like I would name Four Poirot's off the top of my head and I wouldn't name any Miss Marple's but I have only read 6 and I have read 21 Poirots, the others I don't like much are Non-series books

They're both fantastic! But both different. The books are written differently and they use different methods. Personally I think POIROT is better! But I've only read one Miss Marple book so how would I know?

I agree, you shouldn't compare them. Christie was probably tired of Poirot and created someone as a contrast to him. Marple is clever and shrewd, but her ways, as well as the circle she's "working" in, are absolutely different. But the thing is that the reader can appreciate them both equally. At least I do. :)

I dont think eather is more cleaver. I Think they are cleaver in different ways. Poirot is more open about his plots and skeems and Marple is VERY secretive. Poirot is more conventional where as Marple is the classic eavsdropper. Poirot is more use to hard cold evidence where as Marple prefers slip ups in actions and words.

They are both wonderful detectives. You just can't compare them. Two truly different minds. Hercule Poirot is peculiar, clever, methodic and is the most irreverent person ever! So witty with his moustache! Miss Marple is a fluffy lady, never gets horrified, doesn't believe in anything that people tell her, she is fine, really fine with her amazing knowledge of human nature. I like them both because they inspire so much magic and peculiaraty, they are so lovable and dear friends to me. Their adventures are different, very different. As Miss Marple is a old lady and lives in a village probably her adventures aren't very exciting to some but for me they're as fine as Poirot's! I really liked to see their togheter, it would be hilarious because they are so different and would start discussing about different methods and ideas.
