Who's Your Favorite Murderer?

I know this is a very strange question, but we all have a favorite villian. Mine's Jane Wilkinson in Lord Edgware Dies. She fooled Poirot into almost eliminating her from the suspect list. She was very cunning and smart. Who's your favorite murderer?

My favorite murderers are:

-Letticia Blacklock (ok she was a killer but I always felt sympathetic towards her and her motives for killing)

-Robin Upward (yes, he was a shelfish killer but I really liked the way he dealt with mrs Oliver, I thought they both were very funny)

- Mrs Gilchrist, After the funeral (for the same reasons with Letticia Blacklock)

This is such an interesting question!:-) I love Jacqueline de Bellefort, I truly understood her feelings and she was such a romantic person... she had that sick mind and she was so evil and mean but that's what makes her soo special and my favourite villian! I also loovvveee Sheppard, when you read Roger Ackroyd he just seems such a wonderful, nice man (just like Hastings) but in the end I felt so scared, I had read pages and pages "written" by a murderer, lol. HE just scared me to death!

Good question. I also liked the genteel spinster Miss Milcrest, and also Mrs Lorrimer ~ that she refuses to give her motive, and earns the admiration of Poirot interests me.

On the whole, I often find the murderers to be the most interesting characters in the book.

Apart from the ones already mentioned I liked Charles Cartwright in Three Act Tragedy - lots of charisma and quite a tragic figure in many ways

Interesting question. And I thought I was the only one who is inclined to like the murderers more.

1. Patrick Redfern (Edward Corrigan) and Christine Redfern (Christine Deverill) from Evil Under the Sun. The way they staged the entire thing was worth an applause.

2. Number Four (Claud Darrell) from The Big Four. Master of Disguise, murderer, but there was something about Number Four that intrigues me.

3. If a non-HP murderer can be nominated, it is most certainly Justice Lawrence Wargrave from And Then There Were None. A brilliant mind, and quite an excellent choice of victims also.

Oh, this is a topic just filled to the brim with spoilers! I love it!

My favourite killer has to be the one in The Hollow. Christie spent so much time developing characters in that book, that by the end, I had gotten to care for them all.

My favourite murderers are the Doctor in Murder of Rodger Ackroyd and also the ABC murderer was a very cunning one!

My favourite murderer has to be Jacqueline de Bellefort from Death on the Nile - I can't explain why, I just love her, and Simon Doyle as well.

Mine would have to be from Orient Express for their audacity, Death on the Nile because it was all for love and The Man in the Brown Suit for the sheer force of his personality.

I think that Dr Shepard is a pretty awesome character and i also like Mrs Poithero (probably not spelt right) from Murder at the vicaridge

Definitely the murderer in Taken at the Flood. What an audacious plan, and he/she might have got away with it without resorting to murder. Why didn't they send the victim abroad for their health instead?

Taken at the Flood- Because the murderer wanted to inherit the money the victim had.

My favourite murderer is, of course, Hercule Poirot. He lost all credibility by being the judge, jury and executioner in Curtain. The way he went against all that he had believed in his whole life. Thou Shall Not Kill.

So, I never read that book again, and have chosen to forget that it exists (except for today)

Other than that, I think Miss Gilchrist is the best female killer.

My favorite murderers are: The passengers (Murder on the Orient Express)-they all took part in a murder for a good and justifiable cause to avenge the brutal death of a little girl as well as the tragic deaths of Colonel and Mrs. Armstrong, the stillborn child and Pierre Michel's daughter Susanne. I also like them because they got away with it. I know this next one is not from the Hercule Poirot stories but I have to say my other favorite is Judge Wargrave (And Then There Were None) because even though he was sadistic, mentally unsound, and cruel and ruthless he had a very brilliant and scheming mind. He planned the crimes very carefully, remained calm throughout the whole business on Indian Island. He took charge of the situation after the General's death. He also knew how to play on the weaknesses of Blore's foolhardy and bumbling mentality when Blore went back to the house alone and got himself killed. Armstrong's firm belief in social classes which made him a easy target for going along with faking Wargrave's death and then unsuspectedly being thrown to the sea. Lombard's belief that women are not capable of murder which leads of course to his being shot by his own revolver by Vera. Vera's hysterics and practically losing her mind after the shock of the seaweed hanging in her room. Which finally leads her to hanging herself and fulfilling the last verse of the nursery rhyme

Mine's Marina Gregg from The Mirror Crack'd. Even ordinary people can become so overwhelmed that they are motivated to kill. Not every killer is a psychopath.
