I always thought Hinchcliffe and Murgatroyed were a couple. Lightly handled and only if you read into it, sort of like Picture of Dorian Grey. Other than that, I never picked up on that I could actually point to. Did think the murderer in TMAAS could have been, but to say why would be a spoiler.
I really like Monk. Funny and intresting but the plots are a little predictable.
Oh, it's fabulous!! Unfortunately the series has ended now, but there are plenty of reruns on tv, especially the sleuth channel! And of course, there's always the DVDs. If you like Poirot, I'd highly recommend Monk. :D
Not seen Monk, but heard it's good.
I agree with you, Miss Quin, about Poirot having OCD. If anyone has ever watched the show Monk, you'll know what I mean when I say I think of him as a modern-day Poirot. :)
Is Poirot gay? Well that will get the discussion going! I personally don't think so. We read what Poirot thinks and he's never indicated he's attracted to any handsome men. Plus there's plenty of them around in AC stories! The Countess is the only one who takes up alot of his thoughts. I wonuldn't mind if he was, but it doesn't seem that way.
I don't think he has Asperger's Syndrome either. I think he suffers from Obsessive Complulsive Disorder. But also he's rather eccentric, which makes Poirot more interesting.
I've always wondered if Poirot is gay. I also wonder if he has Asperger's Syndrome due to all of his quirks.
The OP is a pretty epic run-on sentence.
I'm not a total purist and sometimes I like changes in adaptions. But in general I agree that a more cautious hand is required in changing stuff.
I agree with you Boomcoach but would also say that a one-off should only explore a subject if it is in the book, I suppose Colonel Race COULD be portrayed as Gay as he isn't married but Battle couldn't so the Character who replaced him in Cards On The Table should not have been gay, better still if peoples sex lives aren't mentioned if it isn't important to the Book.
I do not think that it is much of a stretch to think of Hinchcliffe and Murgatroyd as being a gay couple, but you could also cast them as straight. The character that I feel comes off as most clearly gay, in AC's works, is Philip Blake, in Five LIttle Pigs. I agree that I see little need to change a character's orientation when adapting a book.
It would bother me less if, rather than doing a series such as Poirot or Marple, someone did a one-off movie that explored something like this, but in a series of adaptations, the fewer changes to the storyline, the better. When you are just making a change for shock value, or to be "current", you are no longer making ana adaptation that I want to see.

I was on a Nother topic and diverted and asked if Agatha Christie wrote Gay Charactersa in her books, and can't remember what Topic it was and thought I better explain I only asked because the other night there was nothing on and while waiting for something else my Mum and I watched the last 30 mins of COTT and my Mum said 'She didn't write gay Characters did she" vand I said to my knowledge only once and then very lightly in a way in which it could be left up to the Reader to decide (I meant A Murder is Announced and Miss Hinchcliffe and Miss Murgatroyed) (someone posted that Parker Pyne could have been Gay) I just felt that I want people to know that I think that if a Character iss Gay he or she should be in the Adfap but if not than they shouldn't. btw, I have also decided that I will never be so bored that I will feel I have to resort to watching Cards On The Table or Body In The Library, Nemesis or The Sittorford Mystery now I think about it.
