"Not staying true"

I get excited when I see we are going to enjoy an Agatha Christie movie on TV, then very disillusioned and sad when I I observe how far they have strayed from the original story.  e.g. including Miss Marple in "Murder is Easy".   Miss Marple was never there!  And the story without her was still top notch.  Poirot and Marple are attention getters for sure but I believe the name of Agatha Christie would draw her true fans, so leave her characters and plots as she wrote them,.

Her books and plots were top notch.  She was a genius.  So who are these people who feel they can improve upon her books by changing circumstances and characters at will?

I have been a Christie fan for over 50 years

Dolly B I mainly agree. I don't expect the adaptations to be word for word, from the books. But altering the murder in the McEwan Body in the Library was a crime itself!

I don't mind some changes, I even like some of them. Sometimes the original AC story does need some condensing, sometimes the changes add an interesting twist (there are some changes which were met with hue and cry among the purists, but I didn't mind them at all).

However, I agree that more often then not, these changes are pointless, often miss the point entirely, massacre perfectly good plots, cheap, sensationalist, and/or tacky. The screenwriters and producers really need to realize that adding Lesbian Nazi Nuns (tm) usually does nothing to enrich a Christie story.
