Save Winterbrook

May I draw your attention to a campaign in the town of Wallingford, South Oxfordshire to prevent the development of upto 850 homes in the small hamlet of Winterbrook.

You and your members may well be aware of the significance of Winterbrook as far as Agatha Christie is concerned.

Agatha Christie was undoubtedly Winterbrook’s most famous resident.  She bought Winterbrook House with her husband Max Mallowan in 1934 and died there in 1976. Their home, Winterbrook House, a Queen Anne house (mid 18th century), was believed to be the model for Danemead, Miss Marple's house in the village of St Mary Mead. It is a Grade II listed building. Agatha Christie is buired in the nearby Church at Cholsey.

We at Save Winterbrook believe the development of such a large development would forever destroy a sensitive area with special character and rich in history whilst placing strain on the environment and local infrastructure.

Further information can be found at: www.savewinterbook.com

Our objective is to encourage our neighbours and supporters to object to the local council (South Oxfordshire District Council - yourplaceyourfuture@southoxon.co.uk ) by 1st May 2009.

We would also like to draw attention to this issue with the local press ( and would appreciate any written support from you or your members.

Many thanks.
