That sounds wonderful! I would personally love to read a story like that sometime. Here's some advice from someone who has written AC fanfiction:
. Keep the canon characters in-character as much as possible. If they are going to do something OOC, develop their character to explain why so it is at least believable.
. Develop the new characters as well. Remember, AC didn't make them to just be background characters; the suspects had actual personalities.
. Throw in a few red herrings, but don't throw in TOO many, or else it will become just like Lost: Too darn confusing to follow.
Poirot and Tommy and Tuppence are no longer copyrighted in the US, as they were published before 1923. In countries that use author's death +50 years (UK and other Commonwealth countries, IIRC) they are still under copyright.
LoneWolf, not all fan fiction is illegal, only when the characters are still under copyright. There are innumerable books of Sherlock Holmes pastiches available, as the Great Detective is fair game for any use.
All fanfiction is technically illegal, that doesn't stop sites like FF.net and hordes of more fandom-specific sites thriving on the web.
Agatha Christie fandom has been around for years, and it's growing. You can find some sample essays and articles of Christie fandom on this website's blog, and many Internet fan sites on Christie can be found with simple searches.
A number of Christiephiles have written fanfiction, but I must point out that fanfiction is illegal– Christie's characters are still under copyright.
I always didn't understand why there's no Agatha Christie fandom and fanfiction.

I've decided, for my own enjoyment at least, to write a Poirot story of my own. I'm not trying to get anything for it and I'm not wishing to steal Agatha Christie's limelight, I just love the intrigue of the stories.
I'm pretty sure that it will be an original storyline. I've only done character decriptions so far. Like the tv adaptions, it will include Poirot, Hastings, Japp and Miss Lemon, as well as 12 other new characters.
I'm always open for any kind of advice and feedback as I go on. It will take me a while as I'm in my final year of high school at the moment and am busy as anything.
But, at this point in time, what do you think?
