The Mystery Man is back! And more devious than ever...
The Mystery Man (who could also be a woman, it's a mystery after all) has kidnapped eight characters from the stories of Agatha Christie. Trouble is, we don't know who he's kidnapped!
In an email to the official Christie Community, the Mystery Man has revealed that beginning Thursday, July 7th 2011, he will allow one character per week the chance to speak.
And this is the place to put your theories and ideas to the Christie community, or just to browse to catch-up on all the latest events should you not want to use Twitter to follow the game.

This victim was easy: I saw the movie.
Natsimard you can still catch up! Much Fun and Luck!
Regards!
I started this game a little bit late... But I've got it! I loved this book.
got it...
got it
got it
Got it!
Finally made it. I read the novel some time ago, and the clue abour Mogul architecture really helped. :))
i found victim 1 easy to find as i only just finished the book
It took me about an hour to find this but finally got it! I had only read one of the three books in which the child behind the fireplace is mentionned and it was not the right one! Took me quite a bit of detective work to finally find what I had been looking for... Now all that is left is to read the two other books mentioning the fireplace "incident". Ordering them right now from my library! :oD
James7Help i really can not get it!!!!
Hmm... well, all I can say is that the old grey mare she ain't what she used to be.
Help i really can not get it!!!!
Uf! Finally I got it!
I love this book, but it looks that I don't remember much of it :-) I will have to read it again.
I get it on Monday. :) By the first clue. :)
Pat_septemberanywyay, i can't stop thinking of ways to narrow us down towards the end.. well, i guess i'll just have to wait and see!
Pat, you make it sound like we are all in "And then there were none" lol!
Should be a fun road ahead. Can't wait for victim number 2 because then we can start looking for some sort of connection between victims.
i have a feeling that the first victim was easy to find in order to lure us all into the game - like we even needed to be allured :) i thought this game will never going to start again!

Some good clues here by Moderator 2!
Can't wait for Victim No. 2 - very blood- thirsty..
Wow! I finally got the first victim.
Pat_september
AgathasmykidAs others have said, make sure you spell the victim's name with a capital. Best of luck everyone!
Congratulations! but I don'tthink the link is case sensitive - i've spelled the name both ways (with and with-out capital) and both ways it opened the correct page.
Hi Pat...you are right, I tried it again and now it doesn't seem case sensitive..although the first time I tried it I would have sworn it only worked with a capital letter......lol....
Wow,what a coincidence!!! I am just reading the book for the first time .. I read about fireplace child yesterday... Thanks, 3rd clue!! ;)
Hurrah! I've found victim 1! I had one of those "Ah-Ha!" moments when I read the third tweet. I love this game. Hope everyone else is having fun too!
Got it! Coincidentally, I had just finished the book a week ago, although it took my a while to remember where I had seen Mogul architecture mentioned...
"debbiepaxton61I found it, and know who said it, but can't get the url to work (with or without a capital letter)."
Hi Debbie I had a problem with the URL as well just add the name to the end of this & Bingo you have it http://agathachristie.com/
Hope that work for you Cheers
Has anyone else noticed that there are different quotes belonging to Victim 1? One was posted on facebook, the other one here and there are three on twitter...
AgathasmykidAs others have said, make sure you spell the victim's name with a capital. Best of luck everyone!

Oh, how lucky that the first victim came from one of my very favorite AC novels! Easy peasy :) How exiting :)
It helped that the movie version of the book was on Masterpiece Mystery last night....
That was a tough one, but my sleuthling paid off! I was certainly looking in the wrong direction at first .... I hadn't read this one in it's entirety so it threw me for a loop!
I finally found! I was looking for in the wrong book! I have to re-read this book! It was not easy!
I swear the first victim was changed. Is it really the first victim or the second?
oh, forget it! I was totally wrong. Now I know!! I found it at last!!! wiii!!!!
I am quite sure that I have the right book but I can't find it :/// I've tried everything (even www.agathachristie.com/Idontknow!!!) The solution is right in front of me but I can't see it....
munchkin_pirateYay! Finally managed to crack it. Was a tricky one, definetly going to have a re-read of the book
Same here, Munchkin_pirate - I love this particular Christie, it is a favourite.
Just figured it out. Was looking in the wrong book. This is going to get addictive....
FINALLY, so you have to make sure its capital, and its not the full name, got it
. That took me forever!! I can't wait for victim #2, is alright to say that?
Yay! Finally managed to crack it. Was a tricky one, definetly going to have a re-read of the book
Got it! Love getting to look back through her works to figure it out...not that I ever need much of an excuse to return to Christie!
debbiepaxton61I found it, and know who said it, but can't get the url to work (with or without a capital letter).
Hi Debbie, not sure what to say, are you entering the slash properly? Remember again, the quote is in three different Christie books, are you sure you have the right person?
I found it, and know who said it, but can't get the url to work (with or without a capital letter).
I'm still puzzling this one out...but thanks to all who've contributed clues! I didn't play the first time so I'm glad this game's come back :)
Agathasmykid Hi SpearmintHippo, how have you been?Hi Agathasmykid I've been well, how are you? Thank you!
HEY I just found it out! I read only one of the three 'child-buried-behind-the-fireplace'- books and I'm really thankful for all these clues!
This is great fun, but it really helps to be familiar with all of Christie's novels. That sort of raises a question... to play this game, you have to be thoroughly familiar with a lot of Christie's work, so it's probable that the winner of this contest will already have most or all of Christie's novels!
Got It- Phew!! now I can get back to getting some work done.
lidija_kovHello again everybody!
Found it! The clues are here, so thanks to those who wrote them!
Indeed, I found the clues led me in the right direction, even if they might have seemed to be mere babbling at first glance. ;)
SpearmintHippoAARRRGGHH!!! Spent all evening on this and I'm still not any further :0( I think I'm going to need another clue!
Hi SpearmintHippo, how have you been? Taken any rides on a blanched equine lately? Hope all is well. :)
AARRRGGHH!!! Spent all evening on this and I'm still not any further :0( I think I'm going to need another clue!
Hello again everybody!
Found it! The clues are here, so thanks to those who wrote them!
Finally! I found Victim #1!
*relieved*
Finally found Victim 1. I haven't read any of the books with the scene, but it took me a while to figure out who it is. I hope the next victim is easier to figure out.
Yes, finally found the first victim! I was so happy I started hopping around like a bunny ;)
As others have said, make sure you spell the victim's name with a capital. Best of luck everyone!
I don't think I have read this one, however thats o.k. I love a good challenge.
Hmmm, I appear to be stuck on this first one...still hunting :)
Finally, I found and freed the first victim! Good luck (after good read) to others!
yeah! found it! :)
I have tried everything I can think of...from the story I think it is...and nothing. I must be doing something wrong! =(
Moderator2First clue -
Victim 1 - Was the child buried behind the fireplace?
I dont know where to look because i havent reaqd these novel yet. Can you might give me a clue a second perhaps pls.
Found it - was looking in the wrong place. An excellent novel to start off with.
where will i look first
I am completely clueless
I went in the wrong direction to begin with, too, but I've just got there. Looking forward to the next victim!
Victim 2 is next week, you're all too good!
For those still playing there will be 3 more messages from Victim 1 to come.
I HAVE JUST FREED THE MYSTERY MAN'S FIRST VICTIMM!!!!
can't wait for the next clue for victim number 2
I HAVE JUST FREED THE MYSTERY MAN'S FIRST VICTIM!!! HOWEVER I NEEDED TO LOOK BACK AT THE NOVEL HE OR SHE APPEARED.
Me too - I was using the lowercase letter at the beginning. Thank you!
You'd think they'd have capitalised '/poirot' in their example wouldn't you? Dear me.
oh yes yes yes! I found the victim! thank you very much (:
I understand now what was wrong, the capital
Mr_westI know that that scene happened in 3 different novels.
I tried to write them all but still I was wrong.
Do we need to write that family name with capital letter at the begining?
I don't want to give it away too easily, but it is the surname of the main character in one of those three books. I wrote it beginning with a capital and it worked for me. Good luck!

Sure, it'll be fun!
It has to be only one word, right?
I just freed Victim !! It wasn't as easy as I first thought, since the child buried behind the fireplace thing is mentioned in about three of Christie's books. It's a creepy line in a disturbing scene...in every book it's mentioned in, it surprises and disturbs the character to whom it is said.....
All I will say is that Victim 1 is not from the first Christie that the child/fireplace is mentioned in and also not from the last. Hope that helps!
This will be fun!
possibly
so we need to find a character which is a kid, I think.
Must be the stress of being kidnapped.
so that victim is asking a question about himself? LOL
Just a little reminder - these are victims of the Mystery Man, not necessarily victims in their respective stories. Also they will be speaking about themselves, so not necessarily exact dialogue lifted from the stories.
i just remembered the conversation in which it was said... i keep on writing the name of the victim but it seems i am wrong too
I remember the conversation in which it was said, but perheps I am wrong about who exactly said that phrase
First clue -
Victim 1 - Was the child buried behind the fireplace?i dont seem to remember who said that phrase or who is the victim
... never mind i will look through agatha christie's books again...
I remember, too, but I'm also wrong.
Mr_westfirst clue! I remember that phrase pretty well, but odd enough I'm wrong.
maybe I'm not writing the link in the proper way?
This is from the instructions:
Once you think you know who the Mystery Man has kidnapped, open your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox etc) enter their surname at the end of this URL, for example:
www.agathachristie.com/poirot - (make sure you include the forward slash / )
So it is the surname you need to enter. What I saw in your examples was that you had an empty space after the slash, that might be what the problem is. Write the name right next to the slash.
I don't think I have much chance in guessing about the victims, as I have only read three Christies and started my fourth. But I'll tag along and see what I can do!

Whatever you do, do not name the character in the forum, it will ruin the game for other players! Though feel free to help others along, just don't make it too easy for them. Anyone guilty of making it too easy will find themselves bumped off! (and banned from entering the competition).
All four messages from Victim 1 have now been released, they were:
"Was the child buried behind the fireplace?"
"So nice to be willed art-work"
"I’m writing a book on Mogul architecture"
"I witnessed two girls having a cat-fight"
