The Mystery Man is back! And more devious than ever...
The Mystery Man (who could also be a woman, it's a mystery after all) has kidnapped eight characters from the stories of Agatha Christie. Trouble is, we don't know who he's kidnapped!
In an email to the official Christie Community, the Mystery Man has revealed that beginning Thursday, July 7th 2011, he will allow one character per week the chance to speak.
And this is the place to put your theories and ideas to the Christie community, or just to browse to catch-up on all the latest events should you not want to use Twitter to follow the game.

Oh good Lord,finally found it.
Pat, nice post! Yes, this years version really seems to have gone by fast, I can't believe we are already down to the last victim! It was great fun playing, and meeting old and new faces.
I have to be honest, I am not sure how all the victims connect to each other, however after victim 8, I will sit down with a blank sheet of paper and try and find some connection.
Happy Hunting everyone, talk to you all soon.
the Mystery Man Game Marathon!
well, i've just had a look at the previous victims posts and it is thrilling to notice how many people are playing this game - haven't been counting, but it looks a lot more than last year! really exiting, isn't it? we're all taking part in this Marathon... Maybe we haven't all start playing at the first gun shot
but by the looks of it - we are all going to finish it together. At one stage I thought we will somehow be narrowed down by now (yes, Agathasmykid, like in a true Christie novel
) - but we're all still here; alive
victim 8 will speak tomorrow... Good luck everyone!
one week or so left of this game..
time went by too quick again!! it's been so much FUN again! when will the NEXT Mystery Man game begin?
That was a reasonably easy victim!
GKCfan, remember that the person says what (s)he believes is true... :)
Victim 7 - I am a talented playwright. #agathachristiegame http://goo.gl/wdAS0
Knowing who it is, this is a debatable statement...
This was easy for me, I've just read it.
Victim 7 Clue 3
QueenOfCrime Agatha Christie
Victim 7 - My name could be for a woman or man. #agathachristiegame http://t.co/IG8q5jm
This confirms everything we have been discussing.
Found it!!
Thank you all for the helpful clues
. Especially CyndyJ
Mine too, Syanne - it was my very first Agatha Christie novel. I like the ones with Mrs. Oliver in them - she plays very well off Poirot.
Finnaly. As some people said, the link didn't work at the beginning. One of my fave stories ...
Mamacarina You don't have to worry ,really! One of the victims (the 1st One) makes ME worry ;) it's not that sure if it really fits... I haven't Read the Book but a Friend told me about the victim and As I told her about my idea She did of course everything to "make it fit" so As I Said I'm probably wrong...
Oh Yeah!!! Found victim 7- but I can't find any link between the victims. Also I didn't play last year's game so I am completely clueless. Anyway, lets bask in the glory that we have moved one step forward.
LauraPoirot, you're worrying me a bit! I haven't a clue how to look at all these victims properly. If any of you played last year, what was the identity of the mystery man? Maybe that will help me straighten my thoughts out a bit...
Found It!! (thanks to the help of a friend)
I've got it too and I think the Second clue was far more telling than all the clues the Community has given so far. A Link between them? I've got a little idea ;) with every victim I Hope it fits in it and until now it did! Hope for victim 8. But I'm probably wrong...
I definetely needed 2nd clue! I could only think of two books in which Mrs.Oliver is called for aid. To think that only a week ago I saw the film adaptation of this story...
Yay! I finally found it! The second official clue was very helpful :)
Don't worry CynduJ most of us found it and the victim. Thanks. Only needed to use the little grey cells.
Sorry it appears my clue for Victim 7 didn't get into the main forum (I don't understand these things, sorry) but here is my clue again:- The theatrical clue is a great help. Also think "bird" for christian name. CyndyJ
Are they linked? I can't see anything obvious from the answers so far. Unless of course it's under my nose and can't see it.
Found it finally!!!
one more victim to find
i still cant understand how all these victims will match together in the end.....
Found it! Thank you freezer1212 for your clue. Another book I haven't read.
The Book had a different name to the Black and white version
Got it...finally. I had another book/character in mind that fit...and I just couldn't let it go. But finally I looked again at other options (because of the second clue) and it was not nearly as difficult as I had been making it! =)
I read the book where this victim appears. This is a Poirot novel where Mrs Oliver appears. Here is a clue: this character was adopted.
The next clue.
QueenOfCrime Agatha Christie Victim 7 - Mrs Oliver has agreed to help me. #agathachristiegame http://t.co/IG8q5jm
I agree completely agathasmykid. I think it is subjective...I haven't found the victim yet...so the clues certainly don't seem super easy or obvious to me. To you, they may since you have already found the victim. And the clues, official and unofficial, at times, mislead...I don't think anyone here is trying to simply "give it away."
mr_ease02Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the clues given here are a little too much. The fun of this game is figuring out the victim for yourself. I realize that no one HAS to come onto this forum, but I enjoy the camaraderie of reading the posts. After 2 or 3 clues, if you want to give easier clues, that's fine. But make people work a LITTLE bit longer. I'm not going to call people out, but there are several on here that I'm referring to.
mr ease, I understand what you are trying to say, however during last year's game a theme developed of people helping others, and the posts became really fun and interactive. That being said, maybe this game needs a general discussion thread, a thread where no clues are given? I can't speak for others, however I quite enjoy reading and trying to figure out some of unofficial clues given. It's important to mention too that sometimes these unofficial clues actually do send us in the wrong direction, in turn making the game more challenging. I know that happened with me and victim 6!
I am sure others will have their own thoughts on the matter.
The good news is I found victim 7 this morning! This was definately a tough one, maybe the toughest thus far...oh well, no point looking down on myself ;)

laughinbrunetteI went lookin for the "other" victim 7 thread...but when I saw one, it had zero comments?
Yes, and the clue that is written there is CyndyJ: "Yes the theatrical clue certainly helped me. Also think "bird" re christian name."
Is quite useful... good luck
Thank you, at last! Thant you Frezeer 1212 and InspectorGrant ( and all the others) for the clues. I went crazy, but at last I found it.
I went lookin for the "other" victim 7 thread...but when I saw one, it had zero comments?
I have unlocked Victim #7. Even though I have not read this book, I have figured it out by the unofficial clues posted in the forum. Thanks to Mamacarina, InspectorGrant, and Digdog.
Laughinbrunette; when speaking of films, I would include television series!
Good luck to everyone.
Thanks JenCal! Now when people are speaking of films...do they mean "films" or does that include TV movies/adaptations?
laughinbrunetteI haven't a clue...no, literally, I cannot find the official clue (s) that have been given...and can't get on FB right now and do not do twitter...I have looked through the posts, but must have missed it or them =(
There has been only 1 post so far, "This may not be my birth name".

freezer1212Something that may help those who are stuck (I hope it isn't too much.If yes I hope that a moderator has to remove it)- the 7th victim's first name -his/her real name- fits to a boy as well as to a girl, something that is really troubling.
Even the every day first name that this victim uses could belong to either a boy or a girl, let alone his/her real name - had never thought of that before. One of Dame Agatha's more over the top characters - quite entertaining.

I have tried and tired different name, but no luck so far.... Any more help?

I HAVE FREED ALL THE SEVEN VICTIMS SO FAR BUT I STILL DO NOT HAVE ANY SUSPICIONS CONCERNING THE IDENTITY OF THE MYSTERY MAN. DO YOU THINK THAT THERE WILL BE MORE CLUES AFTER WE HAVE FREED ALL THE EIGHT VICTIMS?
i've just freed the 7th victim.
Got it
Got it! It was a character I had totally forgotten. thanks everybody for their additional clues, especially InspectorGrant and Kindov and finally Digdog concerning the clue about something theatrical about this character.
Same here, Kindov - also one of my favourite books and I agree, the film they did of it was excellent - they didn't move away from the original story in many respects at all, it was very, very good. Even though it was one of the later stories to be filmed they didn't meddle with the ending!
Got it! This one was relatively easy to guess even though it's true that there must have been some problem earlier with the page because I had tried the name before only to get the "error" page. Try once again all the names you had in mind and you will find victim 7 easily. It's one of my favourite books and films - luckily no drastic changes done in the latter either in the plot or the characters :)
mr_ease02oceanianowmamacarinaYes! Found it, due in part to a clue in the other "Victim 7" forum. Thanks everyone for your hints--I had completely forgotten about this book, so it took me a while.
What other forum?
I'm guessing the agathachristie.com facebook page comments?
When you go into the mystery man forum main page, two "Victim 7" threads pop up. Sorry if I didn't make that clear!
Here's the clue posted there, from CyndyJ: "Yes the theatrical clue certainly helped me. Also think "bird" re christian name."
That certainly confirmed my suspicions rather quickly, and hopefully it can help others also!

I must report that I, too, guessed this character right off the bat and didn't have it come up as being correct. But just now, it did! So, if you tried early Thursday and didn't get it correct, you may want to retry....
mamacarinaYes! Found it, due in part to a clue in the other "Victim 7" forum. Thanks everyone for your hints--I had completely forgotten about this book, so it took me a while.
What other forum?
found it, i had 3 characters in mind from 3 different books, but only had the chance just now to see which one it was
Yes! Found it, due in part to a clue in the other "Victim 7" forum. Thanks everyone for your hints--I had completely forgotten about this book, so it took me a while.
Good job to everyone who has found it, this is a challenging one! I am still searching
Grrrr.... this was one of the first names I tried last night, and it didn't work! Now I have it. I guess that the page hadn't been unlocked yet... Well, seven names down... one to go!
Mr_westYes! found him/her.
thanks mamacarina your clue helped me a lot! I actually tried that name today but I found nothing, and now I decided to write this name again and the Mystery Man appeared! so try all your ideas carefully
Glad to help--although it was purely by accident! Wish it helped me as much as it helped you!
Me too!! It was the first name I tried and the same thing happened to me, Digdog - one of my favourite characters because I found this character to be quite amusing in some of the scenes he/she was in with another favourite Christie character
.
Got it!!!! Like Mr_West I tried that name earlier too , in fact it was my first guess, must have been a glitch in the system. Oh well, onwards and don't get down if at first you don't get it. Try thinking of someone a little theatrical.
Yes! found him/her.
thanks mamacarina your clue helped me a lot! I actually tried that name today but I found nothing, and now I decided to write this name again and the Mystery Man appeared! so try all your ideas carefully
This one is really chalenging. Any more clues, people? I've tried a dozen characters, none of them being the right one.
ugh! Just like the last one, a hidden identity. I said there were too many to count for this clue! When I started looking over titles, it seemed I could think of someone who might fit this description in just about every book. For some reason, I think the word "birth" here is significant...but maybe I'm just grasping at straws!
Good luck, Pat - I think we are going to need it for this one!
oh, from what i've read here so far it doesn't look very easy, does it? well, wasn't expecting easy
well, i'll only begin searching now, forgot again it is THE Thursday!
Good luck everyone!!
I don't know whether we must search for a charcter with a fake identity, or one that uses a nickname or a shorter name.
My first guess was unlucky. So was the second one, and the third one, and..and..and... Once again I'll wait for the next clues.
I thought about a few possibilities but none of them correct. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next clue
Oh, good heavens - I can't even think of thirty characters! But I know that there are a lot of impersonators in Christie so this one should be a challenge.
Oh god!!!!!! I know so many names. It will take too much time. Lets hope the next clues will narrow it down.
I HOPE THAT THE NEXT CLUES WILL BE MORE ILLUMINATING. THIS ONE LEADS TO MORE THAN 30 CHARACTERS.
I'm thinking I will need clue two. This one seems to have too many possibilities...
GKCfanI've tried thirty names so far and nothing!
GKC fan, I love your committment to this game...I am up to 10 so far and no luck!
I've tried thirty names so far and nothing!
Well this should be an easy one...yeah right! Good luck, could be any of a number of Christie characters.
Next victim!

Whatever you do, do not name the character in the forum, it will ruin the game for other players! Though feel free to help others along, just don't make it too easy for them. Anyone guilty of making it too easy will find themselves bumped off! (and banned from entering the competition).
All four messages from Victim 7 have now been released, they were:
"This may not be my birth name"
"Mrs Oliver has agreed to help me"
"My name could be for a woman or man"
"I am a talented playwright"
