I have just read this book. I rate it 7/10. The atmosphere of the novel is so strong and intense. All the plots and twists are amazing. However, something was lacking. There were some dull parts! My favorite character is Emily Trefusis.

I have just finished this book, I can't remember a Dull part, this maybe because the Chapters are short and largely only one thing happens in each Chapter, I loved this book, I give it 1o/10 I think it jostles for 1st place in the category of Non-series books along with why Didn't They Ask Evans, Towards Zero and Destination Unknown being the least good of those four, there is just one rthing which Puzzled me though, if Trvelyan entered Competitions under Burnaby's Name and Address and Charles went to Burnaby with the Cheque surely Burnaby didn't need to kill Trevelyan because Trevelyan didn't need to know about it surely, Am I missing something?

Perhaps we could say the newspaper publishes a list of winners and therefore Trevelyan would not only know he had won, but that Burnaby had attemped to keep the money as well!

Or perhaps Charles would spead the work on his good fortune? Who knows!

It is one of the books that failed to satisfy me for reasons I can't clearly express.

I'd also like to note that the escaped prisoner (wasn't there one in that book) is totally taken from the Hound of Baskervilles.

That is a shame Lone_Wolf, When I finished it I was tempted to re-read it immediately and was really looking forward to discussing it, I think it was one of the earlier ones I read at first as I couldn't remember reading it for ages but when I re-read it I realised it is alot better than some I have read since the first time.

The Similarity with the Escaped Prisoner in Hound of The Baskervilles wasn't lost on me but it didn't bother me.

Sorry about my odd earlier posts I suddenly realised I had spoiled bits so tried to cover things up and made a Hash of it, Sorry.

I'd rate this 4/10 because I struggled to get to the end of the book. It lacked some verve that other good Chrisite stories had. I didn't find any of the character's memorable, they all seemed pretty colourless.

I felt the Opposite, The Story Kept speeding like a sports Car right till the end, The Characters had a Pulse and Voom unlike some in Poirot books and I cared about all of them (Except the Murderer and The Writer), SPOILER I was cross with the Journalist at the end but that sounded very real. Alas not for the FDirst time I dissagree with alot of Readers about a Book but that just shows we are all different and I Like that we can agree and Disagree and it does nothing to change my belief that this is one of Agatha Christie's better Non-Series Books and one I will enjoy reading again.
