In order to recommend you something you will actually like, i'd like to know what you've enjoyed out of the ones you've read thus far :)

That's interewsting robreid, I found myself not really having sympathy with the Victim and not liking the other Characters, I think it was one book that needed a recurring Character to help the book on a bit but I am glad you liked it, It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

I liked Endless Night mainly because it was different, Agatha built up the tension early on and then had a string of murders near the end.  Perhaps not as good as earliers novels but I still thought it was impressive and well written.  The characters were brought to life well too, especially Ellie, her family and Greta.

What did you like about it robreid? I really could not get on with itI don't want to offend people by saying it was boring but that was how I found it.

Well, I really liked The Secret Adversary with Tommy and Tuppence. It was one of the first I read.

Lava

I really enjoyed these Poirot books, and strongly recommend that you read them (unless you have already):

FIVE LITTLE PIGS (aka MURDER IN RETROSPECT)

CARDS ON THE TABLE

EVIL UNDER THE SUN

And like I already said, SPARKLING CYANIDE and ORDEAL BY INNOCENCE were both great reads.

I agree with you robreid a very under-rated book.

I would definitely go for The Man in the Brown Suit, it should be given more recognition as it's an excellent read.

Give Elephants Can Remember a go. It is very late Christie and has plot holes you could drive a bus through but for all that it is a very gentle book of old crimes and their shadows blighting the romance of a young couple. It could have been a Mary Westmacott book and is well worth a rainy afternoon in a comfortable chair.

Don't forget Crooked House.  This book sent me reeling.....I couldn't believe who the murderer was.  If you haven't read this one, read it post haste!

I too would recommend The Tommy and Tupopence books, I have just finished 'POSTERN OF FATE' and loved it, I would also reccommend:

THE SECRET OF CHIMNEYS

THE SEVEN DIALS MYSTERY

WHY DIDN'T THEY ASK EVANS?

THE MAN IN THE BROWN SUIT

TOWARDS ZERO

AND THEN THERE NWERE NONE

MURDER IS EASY

There's the Parker Pyne stories, they have the plus of having Mrs. Oliver in a few. "The Secret of Chimneys" is a good mystery with likable characters and is funny to boot!  I personally like "Death Comes as the End" but that seems to be an all-around despised book by most everyone else (it takes place in ancient Egypt) Then there's the plays (or stories based on) like "Three Blind Mice" and "Witness for the Prosecution"

Detectivepauljohn, like Jemma already said, I'd recommend books by other famous Christie detectives: Tommy and Tuppence. Their first book together is The Secret Adversary, and I really enjoyed reading it.

Ordeal by Innocence and Sparkling Cyanide were also good stories, and without any detectives. And if you want very creepy Christie novels, I'd recommend either Endless Night or Crooked House.

Hi detectivepauljohn,

The Tommy and Tuppence books are worth reading.  The first one in the series is The Secret Adversary.  Endless Night is another you might like to think about - it was one of Christie's favourites.
