I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread to discuss not only the book but our hopes for an adaptation of it...which doesn't include Marple.

Sir Christopher Lee could be treadwell.

Here's the topic, 3rdGirl.

What about David Warner or Freddie Jones Both of whom were in 'Ladies of Lavender or Roy Hudd or if he is still alive Fred Evans who played Brinkly in Jeeves and Wooster?

Thank you, 3rdGirl!

And I've been thinking about dear, Tredwell. What about Derek Jacobi as him? I know he's not ancient but he's a great actor.

I love the idea of JJ as Anthony Cade and will back Ms Bundle up 100% on that one. He is a hottie! (very important for A Cade to be really good looking as all the girl including Bundle swoon over him on Chimneys). I think he's a good actor as well.

Dan Stevens for Jimmy in 7 Dials as well.

I think we need to cast Treadwell as well. I love that Bundle has to answer the door at Chimneys since poor old Treaders takes so long. Who could possible be refined and ancient enough??

Hello Bundle Anthony Higgins plays someone called Count Ludwig von Stainich who I assume is a replacement and Dervla Kirwin plays Bundle Caterham

That is a very stupid change. btw is Baron Lollipop going to be in the adapt, do you know, Tommy?

I have just looked up on wiki and Stephen Dillane plays a Chief Inspector so Battle isn't a Supt, Although it is unimportant, what a silly change.

JJ Feild was great in O Jerusalem: a film which received awards and a lot of critically acclaimed buzz. As did his play in the West End called The Pride; his acting was recognized and praised in theater reviews.

Now, I do agree w/ you that Emma Malin was the best Jackie. And you may find this surprising but I am too being open minded here when I say that I enjoyed Simon MacCorkindale's portrayal of Simon Doyle, as well. He was also handsome. However I do not agree that he was better than JJ, in fact I think they both did equally well. I do care for Emily Blunt as Linette because she looks more like her and she's a good actress, but I prefered the Ustinov versions actress as Linette's accent.

As for JJ, I can't take him seriously after Goal! III.

That wasn't very nice. And he's been in plenty of other productions besides Goal 3.

He has, but it was completely ridiculous. Sorry if it didn't sound too nice, but that is my current position as to Feild. I'm not too fond of most of his productions to date, but it was Goal 3 that jumped to mind when I wanted to explain why I can no longer take him very seriously.

Whoops, my mistake! Geez, looks like I'm getting character amnesia. Someone slap me when I start saying Mrs. Calthorp is in The Pale Horse, not The Moving Finger. :P

I take a disinterested, unbiased approach when it comes to male beauty, which is why I find Armstrong not too bad a choice.

But beauty is based on individual tastes, is it not? As it is, my hazy impression of the character after more than a year of reading the book isn't that far off from a picture of Armstrong I found using Google. He has a look in his eye that really matches Jimmy well.

Did you mean to say Anthony Cade instead of Jimmy? Because Armstrong is playing Anthony in Chimneys. Tommy, 3rdGirl and I were all saying that Dan Stevens, should or could play Jimmy from The Seven Dials Mystery.

And yes I agree that beauty is based on individual tastes, but I doubt that you could see the significane of a man's appearance as us women do.

You know what really would've been fun? Seeing Simon MacCorkindale's Simon Doyle (Ustinov version) with Emma Malin as Jackie, and either Emily Blunt or Lois Chiles as Linnet. Of course, it's impossible due to the gap between the two adaptations, but that would've been interesting to see nonetheless. MacCorkindale is the better Doyle, in my opinion, while Malin is the better Jackie, while the two Linnets cancel each other out. If anything, Ustinov's Death on the Nile was admirable for its talented all-star cast.

I strongly disagree, go leafs. JJ is NOT a mediocre actor, he's a fine actor -- and he has a slew of plays and movies to prove it -- I would say that whether I thought he was handsome or not. In fact, it was his great acting in Death on the Nile that I noticed first about him.

And I'm sure that you're happy w/ Armstrong as Anthony, go leafs, because you are a guy and his looks don't really matter all that much to you. But I am speaking from a girl's perspective and I say that he isn't good looking enough to play Anthony.

As for Anthony Cade: JJ, Luke Mably anyone would have been better than Jonas Armstrong.

And I still hate the choice for who they chose as Battle. Good actor or not Stephan Dillane does not favor Battle in the least! AC would have been shocked.

I think Stephan Dillane can pull off Battle. He's extremely tallented. But JJ Feild as Anthony Cade? He was good in Death on the Nile, but his other performances have been consistently mediocre. Luke Mably? I'm not too fond of him, either. (I believe he was in the dreadful 28 Days Later.)

I'm happy with Jonas Armstrong. He doesn't look too bad, and he could probably pull off the role.

I don't even want to think about the production with Marple in it. If they were going to drag a different sleuth in, it should have been Poirot. (But let's not get into that here!)

3rdGirl the cast is just horrible! Isn't it? It's almost as if they pulled actors names out of a hat! btw did anyone notice if Baron Lollipop isn't going to be in the adapt????

And I like Dan Stevens, too. I saw him in Sense and Sensibility, have you too seen that? I think he would be perfect for Jimmy.
