Adaptations in 20 years?

Hello everyone-

A few longtime posters have mentioned that they would like to see more topics of conversation on this board along the lines of what used to be on the old website.  I'm going to try to introduce a few more topics on the board- hopefully we can get some interesting responses.

To begin, we've talked a lot about our various responses to the television adaptations of Christie novels.  The current adaptations are very different from those from ten years ago, which in turn are quite different from the adaptations from ten years earlier.

What do you think the Christie adaptations from a couple of decades in the future will be like?  After all, all of the adaptations of books previously filmed take pains to be substantially different from their forerunner(s).  Current adaptations are so different from past ones that it may very well be that future ones will be dramatically still more different.

Personally, I think that some of the following changes will appear in future Christie adaptations:

•Time alterations: I think that future adaptations will move the plot to the present day (after all period pieces can be very expensive), or perhaps some plots will be moved further into the past- Christie plots would then become historical mysteries.  Locations will probably be changed, too.

•In terms of casting, I think that all-star casts will be the norm, although I think that more ethnically diverse casting will be used.

•I think (unfortunately) that some future adaptations will be played for comedy.

•Forensic detection will probably be added to the plots.

Of course, these points are not what I would LIKE to see happen.  My own preferences for Christie adaptations are very different... but that's for another post.

I agree with you GKCfan, I would like more posts in the style of the old site - I especially enjoyed reading people's OMDBs (I think I may have the Initial wrong but I hope you know what I mean) I also like you think the changes in the future will be as you suggest which I think will be a huge shame, In the film 'Murder With Mirrors' with Helen Hayes Lady Diana is mentioned and it seemed wrong, (I don't think she was Lady Diana when the book would have been written), I don't thionk modern uses of Detection would be the worst thing to happen (Identikit's might be quite fun) and I think the used of the Computor was quite brilliant in Murder is Easy but I can see now in the 'Marple' series Comedic elements, there is enough humour in some of Agatha Christie's work without it being forced, the balance was just right in 'Murder At The Vicarage' (The Joan Hickson version) as well as in the BBC version of 'Sleeping Murder' I would like to see a nothyer version of 'And Then There Were None' Perhaps set in a Village owned by The National Trust and The person who assembles them is a Magnate who has been able to pay all the villagers to leave the Village for a Weekend or it could be set in a Deserted Ghost Town.

You say you DON'T want the changes you predict but what changes would you feel are acceptable GKCfan?
