Casting Mr. Quin

If I were Empress of the Universe, the perfect casting for the Mysterious Mr. Quin would have to be Nathaniel Parker.

For Mr. Satterthwaite, I think that Bill Nighy would be great. He'd have to play older, but he is a good actor and could pull that off easily.

I would love to see these actors in these roles. And I would love to see this Agatha Christie series made for television, instead of the same ones over and over again.

These are all short stories, and would work well in a 45 - 60 minute format.

Any thoughts about this?

I don't know who will be a perfect Harley Quin, but I do have high standards to whoever takes the part. One mistake and Quin loses his magic. As for a TV series, I will love to see it! But sadly, AC only wrote 14 Harley Quin stories...

gatha Christie only wrote 14 stories with Harley Quinn you could still have a series run and run if the stories had the right atmosphere, I had all but the last story read to me when I was in Hospital 4 years ago and enjoyed them, but I must have got the wrong impression as I thought both Harley Quinn and Mr Satterthwaite were the same age and Nathaniel Parker and Bill Nighy aren't I don't think. Anyway, I always thought Nathanial Parker should play Raymond West

True indeed. Atmosphere is all, is it not? I am not certain as to who Nathaniel Parker is, but I do hope that whoever was finally Quin, he will be a Man of Magic, a Love Detective. If he has the atmosphere, I don't care. Well then, care to tell me why you were read all but the last story? And do you mean Harlequin's Lane or The Harlequin Tea Set?

Have any of the Harley Quinns ever been filmed? I feel they have missed their day for being filmed - today they would be produced with that awful post irony. I'd love to see a lates 60s/early 70s version of a Quinn story - they'd have been very trippy but I feel remained faitful to the stories

"The Coming of Mr. Quinn" (yes, they added an extra "n") was one of the first Christie movies ever made. It was based on the first Mr. Quin story. I have not seen it– I don't know if it even exists anymore. Check out the IMDB for more details.

That's a good idea. Maybe 20 mins. per story. I don't know who will be the perfect Mr. Quin or Mr. Satterwhaite but I recommend you to read the book.

I think Nathaniel Parker is a fantastic actor, but I don't see him as Mr Quin. I would love NP to be in an AC adaptation though.

I'm such a huge fan of Mr Q and Mr S that its hard to match people up to them. Mr Quin would be someone youngish and he is described as good looking, tall, slender and dark. Mr Satterwaite was 62 in the first story but they can age actors up.

Maybe Ben Whishaw as Q?

How about Adrian Lester from Hustle? Tall, elegant, mesmerising eyes and a beautiful voice, wouldn't he look great in a Harlequin costume? No reason why Mr Quin can't be black, apart from the Commedia del Arte connection.

Regarding Mr Satterthwaite, I once met Wilfred Brambell (old Steptoe!) and of course in real life he was beautifully dressed with an educated voice. He has remained my embodiment of Mr S (dried-up, shrivelled elderly man) ever since, and I have trouble thinking of anyone present day for the part!

I don't know Adrian Lester, but if he is "Tall, elegant, with mesmerising eyes" that it sounds a great choice.

Lucky you Nofret meeting Wilfred Bramble. He played the role of a "dirty old man!" so well.  Yet Wilfred was so different to his well known character Alfred Steptoe.  Before you mentioned him I was thinking of Ian McKellen, but now I'm not sure.

Ive seen a quite alot of Art Deco/Harlequin objects in the shops atm, so it would be a great time to have a MrQuin film/TV series. But I have my doubts if there will be a remake. TV companies seem to be playing it really safe. They are more likely to remake a well known programme/book than try something new. The non series AC books are now filmed as Marples, because it seems its safer ratings wise, than have a programme not using the Marple franchise.

On a different subject, the TV series House of Elliot had a Commedia del Arte clothes collection featured. The clothes looked really stylish in black in silver with diamond patterns. So I can see the costumes clearly in mind. I LOVE House of Eliott by the way!
