Clueing in early Poirot films

I've been recently watching the early Suchet Poirot productions, based on short stories. Though they occasionally slipper into gimmickry, overall, they're enjoyable and a nice way to spend some time when you don't have much of it. The screenwriters did an overall good job of expanding the early Christie potboilers and giving them their own charm. However, I've got one problem with them - the way deduction is often pulled by the wayside, resulting in final relevations that seem arbitrary and unproven. It's clear that the mystery aspect was secondary to the screenwriters.
