Crooked House Film

Cinema Blend, one of my favorite film news sites, had this item up when I woke up this morning. Naturally, I had to share it with y'all, as it is the most exciting thing I've read this week:

"According to The Independent, Julian Fellowes, perhaps best known for his Gosford Park script, is adapting the novel Crooked House. The story, in Christie’s opinion the second best she ever wrote, follows a fiancé who’s told the marriage can’t go forward until the murderer of his future wife’s grandfather is apprehended. The tale is absent the author’s usual sleuths, Poirot and Marple, but the stuffy English mansion is right in her wheelhouse. Death At A Funeral director Neil LaBute will helm the project set to begin filming in the UK later this year. To say I’m extremely optimistic would be an understatement. Here’s to hoping the adaptation performs better than expected, paving the way for plenty more of the same."

This is a dream come true. One of the best Christie books coming to the big screen with Julian Fellowes on board??? I can't wait to see that cast. Fingers crossed for Vanessa Redgrave or Maggie Smith as Edith de Haviland.

When I first read that they were going to make Crooked House into film, I got so excitied that I ran up and down the stairs like a madman, especially when I read Julie Andrews was going to star in it.

I have not read the book yet, even though I've heard how fantastic it is but I'm so goign to when I've finished reading the ABC Murders

When I heard about this film, I nearly died I was so happy.  I loved the book, and I hope they do it well!  I heard a rumor that Julie Andrews is going to be Edith de Haviland!

Love the book, one of my favourites, and the expectation of 'who' will

be on the cast list. Do we know yet..have I missed the news?

If it is done by 'Julian Fellow' we are in for a stunner.

Let us hope it will the the first of many.

Crooked House is one of my favorite Agatha Christie novels.  I am looking forward to the new movie, but with some reservation.  I do hope the book is strictly adhered to - no change in story, setting, or characters.  Newer adaptations to the novels have been horrible.

I am going to read Crooked House again (and again, probably) before seeing the movie.

When is the movie opening in the U.S.?

Thank you.

I love it! As soon as I found out, I did a bit of research to see who the casting director might be. I emailed a couple of people (producers or agents), but--no big surprise--never heard back. I'll keep trying until I find out which CD lands the gig. Of course, by then, they may already have their main cast pretty well set. I'd LOVE to be seen for it!

Agatha and Julian, Together At Last!!!

I re-read it after the announcement, and kept picturing Tom Hardy as Charles Hayward. Me as Sophia, naturally. ;) (I'd dye my hair, or wear a wig.) I'm too young for Magda, but Brenda might be a possibility.

So, if any of you have any contacts, let me know! Tee-hee! (It's a dream to be in an AC production!)

I look forward to a new adaptation.  Some are good, some not.  This onesounds promising.  I just finished the book not long ago.  What an ending!  I won't give it away.  I love Julie Andrews and Gabriel Byrne.

This bodes well.  I hope that, given the talent involved, the adaptation doesn't turn out like so many recent ones, with unforgiveable changes.  Also, it is not a story that has been adapted before AND the ending needs no "punching up," thank you!

I still haven't got round to reading the book. But as I've mentioned before on this forum, I'm rather fond of Matthew Goode. So I'm very pleased!

Goode will play Charles.

Arterton will play Sophia.

Dame Julie Andrews will play Edith de Havilland.

Byrne will play Roger.

This sounds great!  Ms. Andrews may probably be playing Edith de Havilland, although Sophia's mother and Nannie are also options.

Julie Andrews? Alright, now I'm excited. She's an absolute legend!

More great news!

A recent article on Dark Horizons confirms that the film will begin shooting this fall in the UK. Even better: four actors have been confirmed, although the article does not specify which roles.

Gemma Arterton: hopefully Brenda, but maybe she'll be Sophia? My money's on Brenda. I actually don't care for her much, so I'd rather see her as the pretty, vapid girl than Sophia.

Matthew Goode: God I hope he's Charles. I love Matthew Goode, and I double-love that he's now a Christie double-dipper.

Gabriel Byrne: No idea who he'd be playing. Sophia's father? Charles's father?

and finally...

JULIE ANDREWS!

She MUST be playing Edith de Havilland. And that...that is incredible!

I'm very excited yet a little nervous because I hope that they won't try to fool around with Agatha Christie's plot or try to update the setting with nonsense material like in some of the more recent Poirot and Miss Marple adaptations. It's about time that an Agatha Christie film is on the silver screen again but I hope that it's done with the same kind of class that the 1974 adaptation of Murder On The Orient Express was and that it will remain faithful to the book and keep the characters (and not try to change and alter them).

My, My, Julian Fellowes is busy isn't he, what with Downton Abbey, a Titanic Frilm and being a Working Menber of The House of Lords I wonder how he manages to fit everything in, I hope this isn't a rumour that will come to Nothing, I think Penelope Wilton's Son in Downton Abbey could play Charles and the Rldest Douwnton Daughter or the Posh girl in the first series of Land Girls could play Josephine and Trevor Peacock could play Aristide.

I am looking forward to this because it is one of my top favorite Christie novels. I have been hoping someone would turn Crooked House into a feature film. I just hope they don't change the characters' motives or personality and they don't include Poirot or Marple. As long as they feature all of the important characters: Charles, the Leonides family and of course Josephine I will not mind. I think it would be interesting to see how they treat Christie's solution on to the screen and still feature what happens to the killer and reveal her pathetic motivation for murder. I wonder who will play what character especially Charles, Sophia, Josephine, Aristide, Edith de Haviland and Eustace.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Agatha Christie's work is classic and the way people make movies anymore - just isn't. Why change a perfectly good book with significant plot changes and extra characters? I refuse to watch the new Miss Marple movies just for that reason. They go against everything Agatha Christie first intended. Especially creating ones out of books not with Miss Marple in them. As long as they don't ruin it I'll be fine, but people should like Christie's work for what it is, not change it to accomodate people in this day in age (I'm 25) who never read and barely have any communication skills other then texting on their phone.

Well, I have to admit I'm kind of excited to hear Julian Fellowes is adapting this one.  The script for Gosford Park is brilliant, and I just think he might be faithful to the book.  Maggie Smith or Helen Mirren for Edith de Havillan, but I can certainly live with Vanessa Redgrave.
