Hello everybody! How many of you have seen both of the DOTN TV adaptations? Which of them did you like better, the PU version or the DS version, and why?

In my opinion the Suchet version is the best. It was the first story where is found out who is the murderer. :)

The David Suchet version is better. The characters are better but I still recommend the book for you to read. The book is better anyways.

I myself can't compare the two versions, they were both really good in their own ways! But I agree with you, a combination of them would be great!

I think Suchet version is better because the plots were really made goos. But the book will be more better.

I think you're right there. A combination of the two would be perfect.

I saw both and I prefer DS's version probably because it captured the spirit of the book very well. I also love PU's version, it's wonderful, but there's something there that doesn't work for me, perhaps it's because of the cast, Mia Farrow as Jackie annoys me and Peter Ustinov isn't a Poirot, some characters were cut (just like in DS version but I consider the changes in Suchet's not significant at all!). I love both so much, they're different, if they were mixed we'd have the perfect Death on the Nile, in my opinion.

I have a real affection for the PU version because it was the first AC film adaptation I ever saw. I even went to Egypt two years later as result and cruised on an old boat not unlike the Karnak (not steam though!) and wandered happily around the Old Cataract Hotel. So I still prefer that version despite its faults - I know it relies too heavily on humour, I know there were a few changes and I know that Ustinov's Poirot is nothing like Christie's Poirot but I still love it. Probably as a result, I didn't like the DS version at all when I first saw it but it is now growing on me!
