It was made clear, I just didn't read it properly. Someone should write to the Exrecutive Producer Enclosing an S.A.E. They won't ignore an S.A.E. They Daren't.
It's ok, I guess it wans't that clear the way I wrote it. But I'm disgusted with them for putting in a rape storyline. It's just wrong, because Christie didn't use rape as a plot. The idea of man having to rescue a poor defenseless woman is so outdated! Plus why does there have to be violence to women in Marple? why why why. We always ask theses questions but we never get any answers form the producers!!
Sorry everyone, I miss-read Miss Quin's Post, I think having an attempted rape is silly and not in keeping with Agathga's Wrk, I agree Virginia can look after herself

I believe that the Pocket Full Of Rye scene may have actually been cut of the aired UK version. It was shown at 8pm in the UK> I was reading about the US version and it sounded alot racier than what we saw!! This isn't what AC would have wanted, so it's just pointless. I can understand them adding scenes like that to Endless Night, which is a sexually charged novel, but Rye? no.
People have been offended by a scene in the The Hollow. But I saw it at 4pm in the afternoon, so it had been taken out, which is fine by me.
yes, I do find some of the scenes in the recent Marples annoying. Shots of actresses legs in one of them! What type of people do they think watch Miss Marple?! Leery old lechs?!
A read that there was an attempted rape, but Virginna was saved by Anthony Cade. How silly, she can look after herself! I pointed out on the other post, she'd be the type to have a pearl handled revolver in her handbag or about her person.
It might be all hype, The Papers said there was going to be the noise of 2 Characters having sex in A Pocketful of Rye but when it came to it the 2 people just appeared from bedclothes the most offensive bit for me Rex Oggling at hgis Secratary, I hope there isn't a rape scene in Chimneys.
Well, we must all make out own minds up about if an adpats good or bad. But all Ive read sounds bad. There's an attempted rape, which is very unpleasant. It wasn't in the book. It's not famiy viewing. It's typical they should add something so nasty. For who knows what reason?
That figures, If Miss Marple was supposed to be in it she should be Lord Caterham's Friend Oh well For-warned is fore-armed, a Great book will have an awful Adaptation then. BRILLIANT!!!
It's not been on in the uK yet. But I read that in the Chimneys adapt, her friends were in the Bright Young things set. They were wild young people!!
\Miss Quin, which was the one that had Miss Marple with Wild Friends?
Welcome PewterGoblet at Bertams!! Do you have a nickname?!
There's been some "added" bits to the recent adapts about Miss Marple's youth. One she was having an affair with a married man!! The other she had wild friends.
I know from They Do It With Mirrors that she said she wanted to be a nurse? Plus I think her father was in the church. Plus she had brothers or sisters.
I think it would be interesting to have a 'young' Miss Marple!
Have her solve all the same mysteries and do everything normally (not show her whole life story as the MacEwan Marple series did very well) but have all the characters be younger, even as little kids (like the movie Bugsy Malone).
Young actors for mini Marple:
-Romola Garai?
Also...BOLLYWOOD Marple!!! Lots of Hindi songs and lavish costumes and sets :)
Would be fun for a new twist, though I LOVE LOVE LOVE the original of course :)
I read Maggie Smith wasn't able to do it because of the Harry Potter Films, She would have been Great, Perhaps if I Film is made she will take the role, One is long overdue.
I think There would be Outrage if one of Poirot's Stories was Adapted with Miss Marple but IMHO there shouldn't be, Why shouldn't Miss Marple go to the Island in Evil Under The Sun give the Prizes at Prize Day in Cat Among The Pigeons or be a Governer or be the Executor to the Will in After The Funeral David Suchet has done those so why should he care, we wouldn't be comparing them because it wouldn't be Comparing like for Like Like comparing a JH with a JM or GM with a JH is is it so he shouldn't worry.
Endless Night is partially based on the Miss Marple short story "The Case of the Caretaker." There are a few comparable basic plot points, although the solution, murder methods, and plot twists are somewhat different.
Tommy_A_JonesWell I didn't know that Lil Bit, I can see how that would work, Knowing that I agree I do hope it is adapted for the series and if it was it is even more apropriate for Endless Night To be done due to the Short story Connection and yes I too would like to see the short stories done after A Caribbean Mystery (The last MM to be done)is done. I think your suggestion is a great one Miss Quinn.
It was mentioned in The Agatha Christie Notebooks. I found it intriguing, but I suspect that there'd be a great outrage if a Poirot story were to be adapted with Marple.
What's the Marple connection to Endless Night? I had no idea there was one.
Great suggestion, Nofret. I can see her playing Miss Marple in a less showy and much more authentic way than either Geraldine McEwan (her Marple bore NO resemblence to the one on the page) or Julia MacKenzie (too soft). That steely look has certainly been missing and I think Annette Crosbie would get back to basics and play the character in the way she SHOULD be played.
I'd like to see Annette Crosbie (minus Scottish accent!) as Miss M. She has that steely look as if she could see through everybody and believe the worst!
Maggie Smith was also offered the role at the beginning of the series but turned it down.
As for casting, I would like to see Angela Lansbury get a second chance to play Marple. I know lots of people disliked her in The Mirror Crack'd, but she was also dealing with a terrible script and a cast that made Marple a mere extra in the story. I also think Maggie Smith would be a great Marple, but between her health and the Harry Potter films, I doubt that will ever happen.
I'm not offended, TDIW mirros is alot of peoples least favourites.
A Carribean Mystery- well I actually liked it better than the book. But I didn't like the book much, so.. maybe because I liked the beach scenes so much.
I found the Hickson version and the HH version of ACM rather dull and made me afraid that the book would be too but it wasn't unfortunately I thought the JH version and HH version of TDIWM was dull and sadly I was less than excited about the book which is my least favourite MM book, sorry if I have offended anyone, it is just my Opinion.
I'm afraid I don't know Buffy too well, but Anthony Head would be great in an Poirot. Perhaps in Labours of Hercules?
MissQuinThe Hickson version of ACM was pretty good, but rather dull in parts. So I hope a new version would be even better. There were some excellent parts though. Miss Marple knitting under the hot sun, trying not to look borded by the Colonel.
I do hope the Amercian characters will either be played by Amercinas, or actors who can do accuarate American accents. Because in They..mirrors, they were so, so bad, I'm not reall fussy, it's just it lets down the programme.
You gave me an idea, MissQuin. Since BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is popular in Britain, maybe some of those actors could play some of the roles -- in another posting (Labours of Hercule, I think), I suggested Nicholas Brandon for the "Boar" story.

What about casting for future Marples?
I'd like to see someone try their hand at The Thirteen Problems. Other than that, I wish they'd go ahead and finish the novels and short stories that actually feature Miss Marple before they go and insert her into any more stories that were originally written for other detectives.
(I have to say, though, now that I know that Death on the Nile was originally supposed to be a Marple story, I'd like to see someone's interpretation of the story with Marple as the detective.)
Strange Jest, or Sanctuary would be my Choice, My 3 favourite from Miss Marple's Final Cases and Miss Marple Tell's a Story would also be great.
I would love to see the Idol House of Astarte! Blood Stained Payments and Ingots of Gold would be good. Ive never read them but Moving Finger and Murder at the Vicarage would be great!
Does anyone know if McKenzie will be back? I hope so.
I think The Idol House of Astarte would make a great full length piece, as well as Motive v. Opportunity. The Herb of Death would work nicely also, but I feel like they incorporated part of that plot into Chimneys already. The Four Suspects could also be quite interesting.
I'd like them to make A Carribean mystery. You'd think they'd jump at the chance to have actors in swim suits wouldn't you?!
Apart from that then I'd love them to make A Christimas Mystery? I think it's called. Miss Marple is staying at hotel and a woman is murdered.
Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Soldier Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear.
When the wealthy patriarch, Aristide, is murdered, suspicion falls on the whole household. ...
Travelling on the Orient Express, Poirot is approached by a desperate American. Afraid that someone plans to kill him, Ratchett asks Poirot for help ...

I have no idea what the 2011 Marple offerings will be, but I'd like to suggest that if they do A Murder Is Announced, they should also adapt the short story Sanctuary, as both feature Rev. Julian Harmon and his wife (and Miss Marple's goddaughter) Bunch.
