Do you mean you wear tweeds Butler? I wasn't clear on your meaning.
And me Miss Quinn you never included me! Although I'm sure it wasn't intentionall.
Ive realised how great men look in tweed jackets! Or is it just me?!Jonathan Firth as Nigel Chapman, Matt Smith as Doctor Who. I'm sure theres lots more actually.
MOTOE should be a feast for the eyes, Stanley Weber is playing the Count.
The most gorgeous actor will star in Orient Express.
David Morrissey!
When I read that he was filming that, I had to lay down for a minute.
I saw Hugh Bonneville in The mirror cracked from side to side, and I look forward seeing him in orient express aswell.
Just bringing the sexy back!
Jonathan Firth who was in Hickory Dicory Dock. I'd have liked to run my fingers through his curls...
I fear it is too late to shoehorn Mr Tennant into the adaptation of Murder On The Orient Express, but he would be great as Hector MacQueen - I hadn't thought of that! The accent should be no problem, as he seems rather adept at them, but it would be nice to find a part for him where he could use his own native one. Scottish characters seem a bit thin on the ground in AC's work, unfortunately! Never mind, if he ever turned up in ANY adaptation in ANY role, I would be a very happy little person!
Nofret, I recently saw that episode of The Thin Blue Line (I think it was over the Christmas period when I was staying with my Dad as he has SkY TV and I don't) and laughed myself silly! Forgotten how much I loved it!
NofretJonathan Cake for me! Yum, yum, a slice of him every day and blow the diet!
LOL! I'd like a slice of Cake too...but just a little slice! :-P
vansittart
Greg Wise would have been better too in 'Towards Zero' if they'd scruffed him up a bit :-)
Oh no! I thought he looked absolutely dreamy in TZ! I wouldn't want him scruffy...I like clean and polished gentlemen!
Jonathan Cake for me! Yum, yum, a slice of him every day and blow the diet! I love a man with a sense of humour - did you see him in The Thin Blue Line?
David Tennant could adopt a transatlantic accent and play Hector MacQueen in Murder on the Orient Express. I hope they cast Mrs Hubbard as Christie described her, and not as a glamourpuss like Lauren Bacall was. Dame Judi Dench would be ideal, though probably unobtainable, how about Penelope Wilton? (Harriet Jones, Prime Minister!)
Yes, no hard feelings!
Also I could really see Dan Steven as Jimmy in the Seven Dials, or rather I want to see him playing Jimmy.
Or, Tommy, as you say, Jimmy! And, it's OK Bundle, no offence taken!! Each to his own!!
Oh yes I forgot, pedrhaps Jimmy in Seven Dials
Sean Biggerstaff plays Bobby in 'Evans', and he's certainly very easy on the eye ! I'd like to see Clive Owen in a Christie, or maybe Andrew Lincoln.
Oh no! Not David Tennant as Anthony Cade! (No offence JA!) I picture Luke Mably as Anthony! But there is an adapt coming up for Chimneys, remember? Unfortunately Jonas Armstrong is playing Anthony.
I'm fine with that. I'm fine with his inclusion in any way. Shame he can't be Bobby in the up and coming adaptation of Why Didn't They Ask Evans? as I'm sure it will be AWFUL and looking at him would have brightened it up for me!
I think David Tennant could be quite good as Edward Raynor from Black Coffee.
Oh dear - I can't think of many here because they almost invariably pick tall, young, thin and clean men (like greyhounds) to play the more romantic leads and they're not really my type. I prefer something a bit scruffier so I did like Alastair McKenzie in 'Death on the Nile' and Jonathan Cake was OK in 'The Hollow'. Greg Wise would have been better too in 'Towards Zero' if they'd scruffed him up a bit :-)
I would love to see Hugh Dancy in a Christie adapt! In fact, it rather surprises me that he hasn't been in one already.
Now that David Tennant is no longer having to save the Universe every week in his Tardis, perhaps he might catch the eye of those responsible for casting future adaptations. A girl can dream.....
I hear Brian J. Smith in Murder on the Orient Express is quite a dish.
I love this topic!!
I could see Luke Mably in a Christie adapt, or let's just say I would love to see him play some rugged heartbreaker character of hers in the future.
Looking to the future: do we have any hunks waiting in the wings in the forthcoming Marples and Poirots, do you think?
Talk about a hot topic!!
I havnt seen Under the Greenwood tree, but have wanted to for ages. I didnt like Richard Armitage's character in Marple. I liked him in other programmes such as North and South. Greg Wise, yes! He's even better as Willoughby is Sense and Sensibilty. sigh.
I know its too much to hope Robert Patterson will ever appear in an Agatha Christie?! If he was Mr Quin for instance! I will dream on...
Toby Stephen's was excellent as the tortured soul, it nearly brought tears to my eyes!
Oh McGinty! Ho could I forget about James Murray in The Sittaford Mystery! I adore him! Has anyone seen him in "Under The GreenWood Tree"?! Excuse me while I faint!
@Puffinjill
I thought Penry-Jones was OK in Persuasion. He's just not my type, though. Whenever I see him on TV he just always seems a little, well, dull...
As for Julian Sands, I'm afraid I've never been able to get past what an utterly dreadful actor he is in order to find him remotely attractive! Greg Wise looked good in Towards Zero, but was anyone else disappointed to find how chubby Paul Nicholls had become?
I wouldn't worry about it Jill - I find that over the years I've managed to watch some real drivel and convince myself that the film was actually high art simply because of the actor in the lead role !
I'm sure this is a terribly sexist thing to say, so nobody listen to me, but isn't it wonderful the way a rather handsome individual can brighten up the most appalling adaptations!!! I'm sure I shouldn't make comments like that, but, hey!, who's listening?!
I shall try to push all these base thoughts from my brain and get back to serious literary discussion............well, at some point.......
LOL ! Too late Jill - I already have !!
Matthew Goode (A Murder is Announced) Sean Biggerstaff (Why Didn't they ask Evans) Jack Davenport (Body in the Library) Joe Absolom (Mrs McGinty's Dead) and special mention to James Murray and Laurence Fox, for being the only reason I would ever waste 90 minutes of my life by watching The Sittaford Mystery ever again !
Please don't talk about Rupert Penry-Jones in his riding kit THIS early in the morning. I'm sure it does me no good! And Bundle, I can understand where you are coming from when you mention Julian Sands.....
I'm beginning to think McGinty might overheat in a moment!!!
JJ Feild and Matthew Goode for me. Mmmmmmm...
I LOVE the Persuasion adapt: it's so sad but ever so romantic! I don't think Rupert Penry Jones is a heart breaker, but he's not bad looking, and he was great as Captain Wentworth and he did look rather nice in that ridding gear.
And yes, I was wondering when you'd mention RA.
And I ust be the only one who thought that Julian Sands didn't look too bad as Thomas Royde in Towards Zero.
Oh and HOW could I forget Michael Landes in 4.50 from Paddington !
Bundle, my old friend, I knew you would be in on this discussion soon!! And Katherine, have you seen Persuasion? I didn't think too much of his Roddy in Sad Cypress but my knees still go weak at the thought of his Captain Wentworth!!! Still, good to see we are all just as divided in these preferences as when we are dicussing the books - after all, it all adds up to a great debate!
I have to say (and I expect Bundle is waiting for me to say it) you left out Richard Armitage from Ordeal By Innocence. Not a fan of that adaptation at all, but I'm always happy to watch Mr Armitage anytime!
I'm going silly again...
And for old times sake - Martin Shaw (Three Act Tragedy) !
Where do I begin LOL !!
Michael Fassbender (After the Funeral)
Rupert Penry Jones (Sad Cypress)
Adam Garcia (Body in the Library)
Adam Croasdell (Cat Among the Pigeons)
Tristan Gemill (Cards on the Table)
Elliot Cowan (Taken at the Flood/They Do it With Mirrors)
Marc Warren (Five Little Pigs)
Aiden Gillen (Five Little Pigs)
James D'Arcy (Mystery of the Blue Train/ Moving Finger)
Julian Ovenden (After the Funeral)
Greg Wise (Towards Zero)
J J FIELD (Death on the Nile) COS HE'S PERFECT IN EVERY WAY !!
RUSELL TOVEY (Murder is Easy/ Evil Under the Sun) EXTRA BROWNIE POINTS FOR BEING OPENLY GAY !!
BUT MY FAVOURITE OF ALL - PAUL NICHOLLS (Towards Zero) and not just because he was born in the same town as me !
Tom Mison (Poirot: Third Girl) and Tom Riley (Poirot: Appointment with Death and Miss Marple: Ordeal by Innocence) would be my two picks, along with Matthew Macfadyen in Miss Marple: A Pocketful of Rye. All gorgeous and incredibly fine actors as well!
stylestocurtainJJ Field without a doubt as Simon Doyle. Phwoarr!
Stylestocurtain, welcome to the boards! I can see we'll be great friends as I'm a huge JJ Feild fan and whole-heartedly agree w/ you that he's the most gorgeous actor to have played in Christie's adapts!
A close second would have to be Toby Stephens who was in Five Little Pigs.
To Jill: I can see that we shall once again resume our discussion of handsome AC characters!
Julian Ovenden & Michael Fassbender (both from After the Funeral, coincidentally) are gorgeous, I think...
I've never really seen the appeal of Rupert Penry-Jones, I'm afraid. I've always found him rather bland.
I can see this thread will run and run...
JJ Field without a doubt as Simon Doyle. Phwoarr!
Oh, oh, oh, Rupert Penry-Jones gets a BIG vote from me. I'm still trying to recover from his smoldering Captain Wentworth in Jane Austen's Persuasion.
Sorry, came over all girlie (and at my age too!!). I'll go and have a quiet lie down...
Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Soldier Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear.

A completely flippant topic to lighten the mood!
The Poirot series from 2003 and the McKenzie/McEwen Marple series have starred some absolutely gorgeous actors (in no particular order) -
Greg Wise, Rupert Penry-Jones, Joseph Beattie, Sean Biggerstaff, James D'Arcy, Christian Coulson, Matthew Goode, Julian Morris, Jack Davenport, Adam Garcia, Tom Wisdom, Tom Riley, Tom Mison, Adam Croasdell, Julian Ovenden, J J Feild, Alastair McKenzie, Tristan Gemmill (and the list goes on...)
Who gets the most votes?
